Carter and Clinton should take a STAND against the bill and explain to
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 09:56 AM by blm
the public and the press why NO PRESIDENT should remove such an essential element of our constitution.

A joint presser that media cameras would HAVE to cover to agreater extent for its historic nature, in a way that separately might get lost.

Accompanied by a ONE WEEK AD CAMPAIGN to pound the message through in 60 second.

6. Leahy was great, but 80% of United Statesians don't know who he is...
So Carter and Clinton would be great.

7. There were some GREAT senate speeches yesterday - but did general public
hear any of them? Did the newsmedia even give them ONE MINUTE to be heard?

5. No - - this is SOLUTION-ORIENTED - an INFORMATIVE solution.
And that should NEVER get old.

3. People need lots more explanation
This should not be dropped as an issue. People need to be told about what has been lost. This is like having the Interment of Japanese Americans all over again.

4. I think Carter and Clinton are uniquely equipped to get MEDIA ATTENTION
that no senate floor debate can garner since that is NOT where the American people get their information for the most part. Even a 60second ad campaign for ONE WEEK would make a tremendous difference to the national debate.

9. I think they've been feuding for decades. IIRC Clinton lost the governorship
and blamed Carter for having persuaded him to accept a very unpopular refugee camp in Fort Something-or-Other Arkansas.

10. If Clinton can hang with that Criminal for All Seasons Poppy Bush, he can

take a stand with Carter.

Fer chrissakes, Poppy Bush talked Clinton into letting Contra cocaine and arms deals go down at Mena, and talked Clinton into closing the books on IranContra, BCCI and CIA drugrunning which protected the very terrorist networks who murdered 3000 citizens on 9-11.

If Clinton can play that kind of ball with Poppy Bush, and ignore all the criminal acts committed by BushInc, then he could AT LEAST do this one NOBLE act with Jimmy Carter.

11. Carter is no prize either. He's unpredictable. Do you understand why
he blessed Jim Baker's "Voter ID" proposal in the 2005 Carter-Baker Commission report, and why he opposed mandatory voting standards in the 2001 Carter-Ford Commission report? Carter might find some way to screw up the "torture" campign issue for Dems. Jimmy is one of my heroes, but I do not understand him.

13. For THIS issue he CAN be a prize along with Clinton, if Clinton would
choose to do it.

12. Excuse me. I don't mean to piss on your parade, but it's OVER!
It's done.

Congress is not about to reverse itself based on an information campaign.

The time for that is passed.

You're trying to close the barn door when the cows are already out and running down the road.

The only hope is to take back to congress (both houses). It's more critical now than ever.

14. And Carter and Clinton can add that to the end. Nothing's over unless you
give in.

My guess is that Clinton people don't WANT to get involved because he has his own secrets.

15. I wouldn't be surprised if GHW Bush would agree
But he wouldn't dare say it publically. It's not like he was this kind of president in office. Remember when it was fun to be annoyed at "Thousand points of light" and such rhetorical nonsense? Oh the good old days.

This is ridiculous.

17. That's what I don't get - why don't they ever use their pulpit for REALLY
serious matters like this? Why do they always give Bush a pass for the crap he's pulling using the office THEY ALL HELD?

Carter CANNOT be the only ex prez who is willing to speak FORCEFULLY against this. We all know Clinton is quite capable of getting attention when he thinks it's important.
