Poll question: How would you have voted on the torture bill?

The reason why I ask is... Is there even an element within the Democratic Party, centist, leftist, whateverist, that supports this bill?

From what I have seen, there isn't. So, for what reason would a Democrat vote for this bill?

PS - Republicans are the ones who made the bill and voted near 100% for it.

So I would have voted no if it were a standard vote.

But I believe the Democrats should have abstained en masse as a protest and to raise the possibility of nullifying the vote.

11. Not sure of your meaning, so...

my desire to see a mass abstention would actually have been a more aggressive way of standing against the Toture Bill than a useless "No" vote. It would be a "No" Vote amplified as a protest.

It would basically be sending the message that "This is so our of bounds we refuse to even support the idea of voting on it."

It also could have possibly invalidated the vote, although I'm not sure of the quorum laws in that regard.

9. My husband and I were appalled by Sherrod Brown's (OH) vote for the bill.

Friends said he must have done it out of political pressure. My husband heard a story on NPR that this strategy has backfired, as it won't convince any new voters to switch from Dewine and it alienated voters like us who want nothing to do with someone who would support this affront to democracy. TORTURE IS UNAMERICAN! This should be a principle and not a campaign strategy!

I fail to see why ANY PERSON should be treated with different rights and standards, regardless if they are a citizen or not.

In addition, Clinton did not need these laws to convict the 93 WTC bombers or to stop the Millenium Plot.

This bill is about one thing: Letting Bush off for his war crimes that he has done in the past 6 years.
