5. Free Republic is our right wing counterpart/arch nemesis
If they're blocked too, at least it's fair.

3. What else is blocked?
I can understand employers blocking some sites. As long as they are evenhanded. For instance, is Free Republic also blocked? DailyKos? You see what I mean. No employer should have to pay for an employee's blogging or politicizing.

22. They use a program and new sites are added
now and again. Think part of it is automated based on their settings. Interesting part is that at another location, they use a different program and have different sites blocked. Of course they block the usual things, but one place lets you check eBay but the other blocks it. Has always been okay to surf at lunch and outside of normal duty hours. They have always tried to give some leeway because of the need to research commercial and news sites for work.

Found the block the first thing, you know, check email and see what has turned up on DU overnight. Guess it's not based on disgusting language or racist attacks, just can't have a discussion of terror or torture legislation.

8. mine too...
It is blocked as a 'political site"
I wonlt even get into why our web system blocks 'political sites', as we are an educational organization....
I found that I can get here by googling Democratic underground and clicking the link to the discussion forum.

This apparently by-passes out filters.

11. Well, here in Kentucky all state computers blocked all liberal,
progressive, etc. web sites but allowed all reichwing BS sites to stay up and running. Said it was in the interest of "work productivity" but somehow the hate sites remained available to all state employees. Big to do around the state but never did find out what came of the uproar. Knowing Kentucky and our lame ass governor - nothing - he is a shameless McConnell prop. Since the gov's indictment, etc. (plea bargained down) McConnell has left his straw man twisting in the wind alone. McConnell cut and ran.

19. Sounds like a good way to get fired
Many employers have polices against non-work related web surfing. Playing around with proxies will show that he knew he wasn't supposed to be doing it.

13. Torpark, small program allows anonomous websurfing and it leaves no trail
...the US government uses it. Don't want the GOP breathing down your neck whilest websurfing?

Torpark is a free program for windows which allows you to surf the internet anonymously. It requires no installation, leaves no track, is small, portable, turns any internet enabled computer into a secure connection...

16. Where I work people get fired for non-work related surfing
My company is very strict (I'm home for lunch right now) Only about 20% of the staff has web access.

However at other companies I know people who surf all day. I know a guy that posts on another web site makes 100-150 posts a day; about half his day is spent surfing.

18. This might be a wake up call to get off the net and back to work.
I would not take the advice of some here who have mentioned workarounds to the block. Perhaps they blocked the most abused site specifically. If your husband values his employment he should wait and quietly find out more about the reasons behind the blocks.

I wouldn't be the first person to complain that a non-work related site was blocked.
