3. Heh. These idiots make me tired. I've had this conversation...

...with half a dozen idiots. At some point they say the equivalent of "It's important to support */GOPpies because they're doing better at protecting us from terra than the Dems ever would."

And I let my eyes widen and look at them disbelievingly. "Wow. You're really WORRIED about swarthy men hiding under your bed with a suicide belt? You're kidding!!"

The response (if any) is usually something about how awful terra is and how it could strike anywhere, any time, blah-blah-blah.

And I chuckle and say "So can lightning. And so can hurricanes. And floods. Like, you know, New Orleans? Those kinds of things are a WHOLE LOT more likely than some swarthy man self-detonating the Seven-Eleven hollering "Allaho Akhbar!' I'm a whole lot more concerned that we have a government that can reduce REAL risks, like me losing my job, or losing my health insurance, or my mortgage."

The response (again, if any) is likely something on the order of "Those things are bad, but they're not as bad as getting blown to bits."

And I roll my eyes. "Well, sure. So is getting eaten by a shark while swimming worse. Or getting hit by lightning while playing a round of golf. But if the government spent trillions of dollars on shark patrols and lightning rods for golf courses I'd get a little ticked. I'd prefer NOT to put my grandchildren in debt to protect me from a one-in-how-many-million chance that the terrible Muslim Boogeymen will blow up the post office while I'm waiting in line to buy stamps."

Sometimes I get a thoughtful look.
