station when ABC pulled reporters off of his, Sharpton, and Moseley Braun's campaigns. After the news broadcast had ended, they told us we could have stood out there all night - they weren't going to report us. It was 32 degrees.
Here's a bit I wrote on the Dennis Kucinich Blog:
Monday December 15th at 4:30, myself and 9 others met in front of ABC studios in Salt Lake City, Utah, holding signs saying, "Annoy the media - vote Kucinich" , "ABC... Your job - report the news. The people will choose their candidates" and "We are going to Rock the Vote by Rocking the Boat! The Media is NOT going to shut us out! ", and Kucinich For President signs, among others, in 32 degree weather. ABC did come out to tell us not to park in their parking lot. We called the news desk repeatedly and were told breaking news was coming in and we'd have to wait, but they'd be there soon. Well, an hour later (I spent most of the time in my car as I had my 14 month old with me) , no one had come to talk to us. We finally talked to someone at the news desk after the news had concluded and after we'd left.
"You could have stayed all night if you wanted to. We're not going to talk to you." was their response.
Other efforts by all forms of media, including the Salt Lake Tribune, have tried to keep Kucinich's name from becoming public knowledge. We are organizing a team to write the Salt Lake City Tribune about it's decisions not to print Kucinich related letters to the editor (Dean was mentioned yesterday), and to edit out the name Kucinich in Joe Inman's last letter, along with his title as the Utah State Coordinator when responding to a letter from the President of Blue Cross Blue Shield on single payer health care, while allowing the Blue Cross Blue Shield person his title in his letter.
Dennis Kucinich is the candidate that represents my beliefs and ideals more than anyone else running. I'm 28 and have never been involved in politics of any kind. In fact, I've never registered to vote until I heard about Congressman Dennis Kucinich and his views on the issues, and now I am a full time volunteer for his campaign.
Why Kucinich? He is the only one running to actually vote NO on the Patriot Act. He voted NO against the war. He voted NO to the $87 billion. He has a plan to get the UN in and the US troops rotated out, being replaced by the UN peacekeepers, within 90 days. He will cut the bloated pentagon budget by 15%, funding universal pre-kindergarten. He will roll back the tax cut that went to the wealthiest Americans and use that to fund tuition free State college. He has a viable plan to ensure every American gets Universal Healthcare Medicare for ALL without spending a dime more than America is already paying, making it healthcare for PEOPLE not for PROFIT. He will cancel NAFTA and the WTO and return to bi-lateral trade based on conditions of human rights, workers' rights, and the environment. Dennis Kucinich will, as President, work for serious media reform, including substantial free air time for candidates and parties. Given the high cost of campaigns, the power of corporate special interests, and the fact that the networks are given free use of the public's airwaves, Kucinich will require that the networks give something back other than "reality" shows.
I could go on and on. He has, after all, posted on his website how he would handle over 60 issues in detail.
What has he done? He's posted the controversial memos that Diebold was suing people over publishing on their websites on his own Congressional site. Diebold backed off the lawsuits. He's co-sponsored H.R. 2239, otherwise known as the "Voter Confidence and Increased Accountability Act of 2003". If instated, this bill would:
* Require all voting machines to produce a voter-verified paper record for use in manual audits and recounts * Ban the use of undisclosed software and wireless communications devices in voting systems * Require all voting systems to meet these requirements in time for the general election in November 2004 * Require that electronic voting systems be provided for persons with disabilities by January 1, 2006 * Require mandatory surprise recounts in 0.5% of domestic jurisdictions and 0.5% of overseas jurisdictions
Regardless of the media's lack of coverage, he's raised nearly 5 million dollars in less than a year for the campaign, and has the 2nd busiest campaign website on the net Alexa, and his book "A Prayer for America" is a New York Times bestseller. He came in 2nd place on MoveOn's primary in June of this year - only 4 MONTH'S after he began running for President, the same online primary to launch Dean into the headlines. Did you know he won the Gandhi Peace Award. He also has a history of beating out Republican incumbents in highly Republican areas. This man is the man to beat out the Republican incumbent we have in the White House now.
