What is the torture bill, really?

It was introduced on 9/14/2006, which means those who voted for it probably didn't have time to read it, though our congresscritters usually only read the summary anyway. We DUers can be pretty damn good researchers and should be able to figure out what it really means in no time. Fuck the MSM.

Sec. 948c. Persons subject to military commissions

`Any alien unlawful enemy combatant engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States is subject to trial by military commission as set forth in this chapter.

BUT...

(4) UNLAWFUL ENEMY COMBATANT- The term `unlawful enemy combatant' means an individual engaged in hostilities against the United States who is not a lawful enemy combatant.

Notice that it says "an individual" and doesn't say an "an alien individual." So does that include everyone?

2. It's not at all clear that citizens are exempt.

What is clear is that anyone placed in this parallel justice system is freed only at the king's pleasure, and the text of the law indicates that the courts are to not test it for constitutionality.
