Another conservative turns on the bible beaters - Dick Armey
From Daddy Dobson’s CitizenLink:

Former Texas Congressman Dick Armey, once a stalwart ally in the culture wars, appears to be turning his back on Christian conservatives and their leaders.

The former majority leader of the House of Representatives reportedly told Ryan Sager, author of a new book on the Republican Party, that values voters and their leaders — especially Focus on the Family Action Chairman Dr. James Dobson — are “nasty bullies.”

In the interview, Armey responded pointedly when Sager asked why he thought Christian conservatives seemed more powerful now than in the 1990s.

“To a large extent, because Dobson and his gang of thugs are real nasty bullies,” Armey said. “I pray devoutly every day, but being a Christian is no excuse for being stupid. There’s a high demagoguery coefficient to issues like prayer in schools. Demagoguery doesn’t work unless it’s dumb . . . These issues are easy for the intellectually lazy and can appeal to a large demographic.”

2. Interesting. My ex-wife has recently been at parties with Armey's
daughter and her husband. Turns out they are ardent and active Democrats.

3. I think he's also trying to counter Newt. Remember, he was a player
in the Newt-coup-that-wasn't....the one where Paxon resigned, and Brit Hume's kid Sandy ended up killing himself.

I think ole Dick is coming out of hiding to remind people of the old Newt days, just in case Newt gets the idea that he could possibly run for President...I think Dick isn't getting his 'Armey' behind that sort of action.

Just a possibility, but it could happen...

4. Well Armey sure didn't have a problem with them when
he oculd benefit from their support. It is people like this who make me want to scream. They took this viper in and held it close and its' poison courses through the lifeblood of the nation. Gingerich, Armey, Delay, and others like them deserve much scorn and contempt for their cynical political calculations.
