Sad example of RW homophobia
I don't remember if I posted this before, but anyway, a few months ago, I reposed a Myspace bulletin a friend posted before me. It was a long list of hate crimes against gays, including, of course, the Matt Shepard incident and a plea to stop this kind of persecution and hatred. One of my other Myspace friends, who grew up in a stereotypical conservative Christian (they're good people really, they just don't realize they're serving the dark side) family responded to me with a message that said simply: "Then maybe they shouldn't be gay."

Now I'm not one to start arguments or risk friendships over politics, but this really saddened me. That some people actually think that gays deserve to be tied to a fence and beaten to death because of something they can't change. There are "Christians" in this country that literally treat murderers better than homosexuals, and go around saying "I'm a good Christian, as is Bush, because we hate the same people God hates."

Just had to vent

1. Rocknrule I have come to the conclusion that these so called
Christians could not justify their hatred without their religion...they are unhappy miserable people....if it's not the gays, then it's blacks or Hispanics or women or whoever it is convenient to hate at the time....

I don't make time for them in my life anymore...

It is sad...but you know the sheeps skin has been pulled back and we know the wolves for who they are ......we won't forget....

2. I know, which is why I'm now Universalist
which basically means I don't believe in hell anymore (or at least an eternal hell). It's what i feel Christianity was meant to be: the freedom to be compassionate towards everyone and to love God without fear because "perfect love casts out fear."

3. Not all Christians are like that.
Some of us actually follow the teachings of Christ who said to 'love your fellow man as you love yourself'.

5. Unfortunately, those like us tend to keep our mouths shut
when others around us are making a mockery of our beliefs.

Not that I'm any great Catholic but there comes a time when you need to draw the line and call someone out on the floor.

8. I won't. I won't apologize for being a person of faith.
It took a long time for me to get to the place I am in. I am a cradle Catholic and I don't believe in a great deal of the tenets of the Church, 'man's law', but I strive everyday to lead a life based on the teachings of Christ.

Most liberals who dismiss the Christ I worship would be shocked to learn that they are following his teachings and his example.

7. Yep - my standard line for those people is
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 04:47 PM by KurtNYC
"Don't hang YOUR bigotry on God."

edit: And the companion line for those asking for money is Bono's famous:
"The God I believe in isn't short of cash mister!"

4. I find it hard to get my mind around the mindset anymore
I used to be a fairly fundamentalist Christian but even when I was I felt that it was up to God and no one else to deal with sinners. One can hope your friend will grow when his horizons expand.
