Thom Hartmann just finished reading from the Declaration of Indepedence...
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient Causes; and accordingly all Experience hath shown, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the Necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The History of the present King of Great-Britain is a History of repeated Injuries and Usurpations, all having in direct Object the Establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid World.

This phrase got my attention: But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security.

Seems to me that it's about that time.

3. I'm not sure the long train has been long enough yet.
For us it is, but for the average American, they are clueless. Beginning to wake up yes, but I fear it must get much worse before they feel it and decide it's time to do something.

6. I, too, have my doubts.
An alcoholic in AA or similar programs has to admit to past wrong doings and offer restitution to any injured party, but the most important step is the admission of a problem.

That admission can rarely be achieved until life becomes absolutely miserable, when one gets to the point that even death would be preferable to continuing the waltz with horror.

I fear "we" haven't suffered enough, yet. The simple changing of a few seats in congress will not suffice; a national change in attitude is in order.

4. Of course, public reading or recitation the Declaration may
well get one indicted or hauled off to Gitmo for fomenting insurrection. Picture this conversation twenty years ago, when there were fewer cowards in congress. And a few more wise men.

7. Now Talking About Jefferson's Intent w/ Bill of RIGHTS
2nd Amendment -- originally supposed to be a universal militia act

"to protect the country against standing armies."

11th amendment -- rejected -- "no standing army in peace time."

12th -- rejected -- "no monopolies in Corporations, corporations cannot own other corporations."
