3. Wow, when they start doing curfews, the game is almost over
The curfews started happening in Iran in earnest across the nation about two months before the shit hit the fan and the Shah left. They were "shoot on sight" curfews, too.

Meetings in Jordan and other places that I can't remember were mentioned. It sounded like there were quite a few involved. If that's true it does explain the curfew.

19. Didn't Rumsfeld say that?
Anyway, it was awfully thoughty of any coup planners to wait until Congress had passed the "Let George have Saddam's powers" bill, and for late Friday afternoon so that any unpleasantness will completely miss the American news cycle.

Hey, are there any blonde girls missing? How about that, er, local sports team?

Things are going downhill - fast.

If this is true Iraq is so heading for a blow-up. Imagine, who would try to stage a coup now? Not anybody connected to the US occupation that's for sure.

IRAQ: U.S. intelligence officials are closely investigating rumors that Sunni generals and disaffected Shia in Iraq are attempting to stage a coup in light of the deteriorating security situation in the country.

Dated August 17, 2006

25. A few more articles of interest...
Washington together with 'certain regional Arab countries' have decided that the only way to end the current unrest in war-torn Iraq is a military dictator, stated The Tehran Times, adding the Bush administration has settled upon the dangerous, mysterious Iyad Allawi, the former Iraqi Prime Minister, who’s been struggling to play a significant role in the country’s political scene.

Analysts say that Allawi seriously threatens the future of the Iraqi nation.

Allawi, is standing for election in next week's parliamentary poll, has been lately promoted by the British and the U.S. mainstream media as a strong defender of “human rights”, with the British Prime Minister and the U.S. President relying on him as “the best hope” in the December 15 illegitimate elections, stated Ghali Hassan on Global Research website.

The propaganda for the former Iraqi Premier’s election campaign has already begun, another evidence that the U.S. and Britain are in pursuit of an imperialist policy to achieve their own agenda at the expense of the Iraqi people.

then the troops can come home and the shrub can declare victory. I would bet it is a CIA backed coup.

43. A strong Sunni to crush al Qaeda and suppress the Shiites again.
Iraq returns to its tyranically repressive but secular state. Mission Accomplished, back to square one with only, oh, a hundred thousand dead Iraqis for them and creeping up on 3,000 dead U.S. troops and terrorism stoked for the next countless generations of Americans.

If this is the scenario that unfolds, Saddam and Osama are both laughing now.
