Those claiming Foley "distraction" are overestimating average Americans
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 10:43 PM by Finnfan
Average Americans are not getting all worked up about the torture bill because they honestly believe that it has nothing to do with them. You and I know that that is not the case, but Mr. & Mrs. Joe Sixpack are not us.

However, the Sixpacks have kids. And they love a good sex scandal. Watching the drama unfold is how they unwind at the end of the night, and it's what they talk about at work the next day.

The Torture Bill is our worst nightmare. The Foley scandal is the Republican's worst nightmare. I can't imagine anything worse for them right now.

they'll see it on cable news. Even Dems I know aren't aware of what's in the Torture Bill. Well, now they do.

6. and Florida is so important to them. We have a lot of seniors here.
It's going to be hard for them to wrap their minds around this - epecially since he was supposed to be from the "values" party. Another Republican hypocrite.

He was shown on our local news "railing" about how "sick" pedophiles were etc. I hope they keep showiung that clip over and over again.

4. Exactly, it's the way things are vs. the way they should be.

If most Americans had their priorities straight, the torture bill
and Abramoff scandal would matter more.

The freepers are going nuts about this. Just one thread alone has
had over 900 replies...

5. I agree. Internet sexual predators are huge news right now.
This is bigger than they think it is.

Still..the puppy press will let Hastert off.

8. i completely agree, the morons don't give a shit about torture
if asked personally they will probably say they oppose it. but secretly they either don't care enough to get worked up over it or really do support it.

the ones who care that much are already decided.

but the morons in the middle who don't pay attention closely unless a scandal breaks out , usually involving sex type issues will pay attention to this.

we can use it to our advantage.

9. In making my phone calls for Lamont, I've realized that
average Americans are completely uninformed. They pay attention to sex, though.

10. I agree completely. The torture discussion has been out there
and for the most part, the Sixpacks have been apathetic. They don't see any deeper than the surface, and can't see it's impact on our Constitution, rights and international relations.

But Foley??? This hits them where it hurts. And the fact that it is apparent that the Repukes have covered for this guy for a year while trying to play their moral superiority game is going to have a huge impact, IMO.

11. This Could Win Us The House
And Felix Allen will hand us the Senate. Then we can examine what's going on closely...and put the brakes to this regime. Be assured a Democratic Congress will investigate the torture and revisit what has just happened.
