A friend of mine said it best just before election '04. He talked about how we will never match the GOP's organizational abilities-they meet every Sunday in church, they do what they're told, they question nothing, they will show up in full force on election day and vote as they're told.
Of course that's what makes us all Democrats and DU'ers-we have an affinity for disobedience, we have minds of our own and we don't bow to the wills of tyrants or superstitious religious dogma like the weak minded do.
BUT a major reason we do get beat is because we scatter when it comes time to join up in full force, meanwhile there they are, the religious wing, the greedy wing, the ignorant racist wing, they all ban together for the common cause of ensuring that the backers of freedom never win an election.
I've been noticing lately though that the lockstep policy of theirs is still starting to falter. It seems like there are two factions in the GOP-the religious freak bush-loyalist, and the ultra right wing racist wing which now denounces Bush as being too liberal on issues such as immigration and terrorism (he shoulda just bombed those a-rabs to the stone age! instead he took the pussy way out cause he didn't wanna offend the liberals)
Here in District 8 of my town the race everyone is watching is Giffords VS Graf.
This is a very Republican district due to the xenophobic whites who dominate the area.
But Giffords is going to win by a landslide I believe. The reason? Democrats are united and Republicans are divided as Graf is a man who vocally has denounced Bush as being too liberal. The man even has a picture of Bush in his office hung upside down as a sign of disrespect.
The Pro-Bush crowd has no love for this man, and his only supporters are ultra right wing rubes who gasp at the sight of anything that isn't whiter than chalk.
What's more Giffords is really just a left of center candidate who comes off as just another Washington suit, but she's taking full advantage of the fact that for once at least here, Democrats are fully united-no hard feelings that their favorites lost the primaries. I was heartbroken when Latas lost, but I will fully support Giffords as I can't stomach seeing another racist gangster representing me and where I live. What's more even a small handful of Republicans are expected to vote for Giffords as even they see Graf as the joke of a man that he is. A Bush Republican through and through the man who is retiring the seat, Jim Kolbe, even said that in good conscience he could not support or endorse a man like Randy Graf.
So the plan? I don't know really, but I say we take a lesson from the GOP and starting seizing opportunities to get them to fight eachother-show the bush loyalists that there is a growing number out there that believes they are too liberal or too soft. Feed the ultra right wingers the ammo they need to keep bashing on bush and his "liberal" policies. We don't have to do much as I already see it happening everyday and quite frankly I think it's going to play the biggest part in future elections.
