The fact that media has barely mentioned this detainee bill. This is a VERY big deal and they're not mentioning it. It's like they know it's going to be overturned.

You can see that the media has turned on Bush and the Repubs - It's all negative negative lately. IMO - they are very alarmed at what's been going on with Bush and his unchecked power. They know it's not good for everything to be under one Party. The CIA and the military having been battling Bush for a while now. Powell, Armitage and others had been battling with Bush and Cheney. Rice hasn't been agreeing with them.

I think someone from the media was "holding" this Foley info until now and also a lot of the Allen stuff.

I heard somewhere (can't remember where - but it might have been on Tweety) that a lot of Republicans also didn't want to have that torture bill passed - but you know how they can get threatened by BushCo. They also were too chicken to stand up to BushCo becasue they didn't want to lose their seats also.

The Corporate powers are concerned because all these military screwups are affecting the economy. Our reputation is ruined across the world. They are most likely being pressured by foreign investors. In case people don't know - many foreign entities own a BIG piece of America. AND American Corporations own a big piece of most of the other countries. Any time a country around the world goes belly up financially - it effects all of the financial institutions across the world. Our banks have lent billions to most of the other countries around the world and vice versa. If any country goes bankrupt - it sends shudders throughout all the financial institutions.

I've been having this funny feeling now for a few days and have been noticing how a lot of the insiders on CNN, MSNBC have been acting - little snippets and comments here and there.

Not to be weird but I have always sort of had a "sixth sense" about these things - and about people and I have a funny feeling....

5. I'm not sure exactly what you're driving at... do you think the USA
will go bankrupt? And the media is holding the purse strings and releasing information at particular times?

I guess it's late and it's been a very heavy day politically. Maybe I'm not able to focus on the point of your post.

8. Not to the point that we'd completely go banckrupt but close to it.
Even that would affect other countries a lot. When Brazil went bankrupt in the 90's it sent reverberations throughout the world - expecially in the US becasue almost all of the bank and financial institutions had lent money to them. We actually freaked out that Argentina was ready to bit the bullet a while back (how ironic).

12. The media is beholden to corporations that stand to lose a lot financially
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 01:21 AM by kerry-is-my-prez
they are all tied in together. Even the fact that Chavez has a lot of oil and he's buddying up with Iran and a lot of the big players - especially the oil countries. They could really screw with us if they wanted to. Saudi Arabia has us over a barrel too with oil prices, etc and they know that.

All of the oil producing nations could bring us down if they wanted to. If they decided to cut out our oil companies and make more and more deals with many other countries (China is very likely) and screw over the oil companies here that would have a huge effect.

Bush's little battles with Chavez and Iran and most of all the other nations is not too cool for US Corporations - expecially the oil companies.

I'm getting tired - hopefully I'm making sense.

6. Expect at least one major new outrage per week through the election.
I suspect there are still a few surprises yet to be uncovered. This could be having a significant impact on the election...Democrats are pretty much energized to take on the Republicans and we'll turn out big. But these stories go to the core of the Republican base....the "family values" voters. Another scandal or 2 and 20MM Republicans stay home in November.

9. Agree 100%
I no longer watch the news. Hell, I haven't even plugged the T.V. I gave it up over a year ago. However, I was in a hotel the other night and tuned in CNN, MSNBC etc and was shocked at the change in tone towards Shrub and Company.

Like you, I definitely got the feeling that the corporate masters were turning on Bush. I think they've discovered that he is going to be very bad for business. I think the tide has turned in the corporate owned media the past week or so. The corporations are afraid--of Bush! This November it is going to be a complete rout!

Because every last bit of hope I had is gone. Maybe there's something in what you're saying and also in what was said in post 9 of the thread below. I really don't know anymore...

17. the Pubbies are a party in overstretch

They're Wile E Coyote run over the edge the cliff and trying to turn back.

I think this 'military commissions' bill has gone Schiavo on them. You know, a Great Idea, and Boy Are Democrats Going To Get Screwed By This Stroke Of Genius. But they've once again misunderstood passivity by major voting blocs as acquiescence or agreement. The first move they make to actually implement the bill, it goes bust on them politically.

I've watched the polls for a long time, and the fundamental motif in things is that there is a 1% per month breakdown of hard support for this Administration and Party that are part and parcel of each other. (On the Democratic side of the spectrum their support was usually understated by pollees, on this side of the spectrum it's overstated most of the time. Reflecting how the benefit of the doubt goes.) The Bush crew broke through the 32% line in hard support during July, which is the line between the Republican moderate bloc and the True Believers. Oh, there's a bunch of soft support for Bush and the hardline Party left among moderate Republicans, but it's like breaking the keel of a ship- it floats on, but there's no repairing it and the choice of sinking or scuttling becomes inevitable. There's a schism or apostasy in 'faith' between the moderate bloc and harder sorts of Republicans that can't be reversed.

That's the wierd feeling in the air all this year- the bleeding out of support and motivation by Republicans. And this bill is strange, really, an attempt to draw and focus all kinds of hatred or anger out of people who have bled out of it.

We're watching a Party expend what remains of itself desperately, clutching to power out of fear of the alternative. If you look at what political mandate Republicans would have if they survive in control of Congress this November, it's far less than what they got out of the '04 elections, which Kerry (whatever other complaints one may have about him) squeezed down to pretty small. It would really only be to carry on with the various disasters into further policy wearout and collapses into reversals, and a small mandate to do very bad things to Al Qaeda. It would allow the Bush crew to escape criminal prosecution. And that's their best case scenario.

Personally, I think the Pubbies are in for collapse of this overstretch, this running on air. Usually they have a nasty crash a month or two after blowing the support of a political bloc previously favorable to them; the consequences of their reduced power catch up to them about six weeks later. I think Congress going out of session with this pittance and load of crap of "accomplishments" gives people the breather to assess what has (and hasn't) taken place. Pubbie House numbers have been in relentless decline since Labor Day- they have no more use, the economic and management/ethics agenda and oversight (or lack thereof) of the states the House controls has run out of appeal. Pubbie Senate numbers are de facto stalled over that period of time while they've been busy beavers about the stuff that is essentially the Senate's domain of responsibility- but I suspect we'll see an abrupt tanking, err, market correction to their true value to the voters now.

18. I shit you not...it looks as if the MSM has been sandbagging and
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 01:59 AM by Texas Explorer
now all of a sudden they are rising up and showing their fangs right here coming up on a pivotal election.

I saw it in the WH presser today when Tony Snow was squirming under some heavy bombardment.

I saw it with their reaction to the Woodward book.

I saw it when Shepard Smith lit into Bill Kristol and flat-out said that the war is a failure and how can Kristol even say that Bush said there would be no more decisions on Iraq until after the election and Smith said that if he had a loved-one over there he'd be pissed-off if that loved-one was killed between now and the election because everyone was too busy campaigning.

I saw it on all the MSM channels today about Foley and Abramoff/WH and how the Dems stand a good chance of a taking the Hill.

There are plenty of others too, but I digress.

19. Just saw some honcho from the military complaining about BushCo
He said they had asked for more men and that BushCo said "sure" and then never sent anyone.

Now when's the last time you heard an active military honcho saying something like that about their commander-in-chief?

They are coming close to mutineering. They are just doing it in a civilized way through the media - through the people - through John Murtha. They won't do it by physically taking over - they'll do it politically.

BushCo wants to send more people to Iraq - which is totally falling apart and then to Iran - it just can't be done - financially or manwise.

22. I'm starting to think this is the revenge of the intel agencies.
They've been getting kicked up and down the block by Bush since 9/11. He hung them out to dry on Iraq by sending Rummy and Cheney to 'analyze' the intelligence on WMD. He tried to de-claw both the CIA and FBI, and the White House has used them for scapegoats every chace he got.

I think King George would have been better off today if he had listened to the age-old wisdom - 'Don't fuck with the spooks.'

I think the spooks are getting their payback. And I doubt they're finished.

24. The other reason that this torture bill is not getting play is 'cause its'
good for Bush - as far as most of the public goes. They would see it as being "tough on them Arabs."

THAT is why the Dems and the media are keeping it quiet - it's a plus for BUshCo.

Like I said word is that most of the Repubs don't want this bill either. So my guess is that it quietly goes away - is defanged without the public (which doesn't include us junkies by the way) even noticing.

28. I've been saying it for years.
And revenge is a dish best served cold.

Maybe the CIA and/or FBI is getting ready to shove it down Bush's throat - and time it so it inflicts as much damage as possible.

It could happen. Hell, it may be happening. Let's hope.

27. "It's like they know it's going to be overturned." . . .
this is NOT why the media is ignoring this issue . . . the corporate/government alliance that runs this country and that pushed the War Criminals Protection Act of 2006 through Congress includes the five or six major media corporations that pretty much control the news . . . they're just doing their masters' bidding . . . as usual . . .
