How powerful is TIVO?
I just watched a short video of Rep. Dennis Hastert (R) on Fox News. The video is from about 24 hours ago.

I don't own a TIVO. If I did, would I be able to go back 24 hours and watch the rest of the interview?

2. No
Tivo only has a memory of 30 minutes on the channel that you are tuned into, unless you recorded the program.

12. My DVR Has a Two-Hour Buffer, Not 30-Minute
I think the newer ones have longer buffers; Loved One's old one only had a 30 minute buffer and I just got mine last month.

14. It Is Pretty Awesome
It keeps recording whatever channel was being watched even if you watch something that was recorded earlier. The guide view is not as efficient though.

5. Tivo is cool, but MythTV is *free*
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 12:49 PM by longship
Well, you have to have a computer with a TV card, but a Hauppaugge card isn't expensive.

MythTV

I use it to grab Olbermann every day and can easily xfer any program to DVD.
It's cool.

BTW, Hauppaugge cards encode in MPEG2 which is DVD friendly.

11. I bought my Tivo for $100 with a $99 rebate. The charge on our bill for
the Tivo service is about 5 or 6 bucks.

I Tivo everything now -- that is practically the only way I watch tv. My wife was so against it at first and she is now "the Tivo Wizard"!

19. My wife was pissed off at me when I brought it home.
She has actually admitted to me that she was WRONG! (That doesn't happen very often!!).

We also Tivo the kids' shows and keep 2 or 3 episodes at a time. The thing is, they think that we can fast forward through all commercials, now.

6. There might be someone who regularly tapes the Fox News show you
are interested in ... maybe they could get the Hastert segment over to Crooks and Liars.

7. How could Crooks and Liars get it if they didn't know in advance...
...that Hastert would make controversial statements?

they have people who do nothing but monitor Faux Snooze. They might have the transcript or a video even.

17. some people make a habit of taping certain shows
(luminaries even do it - Franken has mentioned he regularly TiVo's O'Reilly's show).

A regular person who has taped the Fox News show Hastert was on could get it to Crooks and Liars or even YouTube - although I don't have the tech know-how to explain how that is done.
