Larry Johnson :Are You a Republican?
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 04:32 PM by cal04
I once considered myself a Republican. In light of the record of the Bush Administration and the Republican controlled congress, I can no longer claim to be a Republican. Now we have George “AWOL” Bush and his sidekick, Dick “Five-Deferment” Cheney calling Democrats who question their failed Iraq strategy, “cut and runners”.

Meet Tammy Duckworth, Democratic candidate for Congress from Illinois and combat veteran. Tammy lost both legs in a helicopter crash. Hearing the charge that she wanted to cut and run, Tammy said:

"Well, I didn't cut and run, Mr. President. Like so many others, I proudly fought and sacrificed,; Duckworth said. "My helicopter was shot down long after you proclaimed 'mission accomplished."

Ask yourself the following questions and decide, “Are you a Republican?” (and my apologies to Jeff Foxworthy)

(snip)
After careful consideration, I realize that I lack the moral bankruptcy, cowardice, and fiscal recklessness to call my self a Republican. I've decided, I am an American.

2. I met Larry Johnson about 2 weeks after 9-11

He lectured to a group in Milwaukee about terrorism in general. We had booked another fellow who had to bail due to his expertise on Afghanistan who convinced Larry to be his sub as he had been called in to help and Larry was "independent", having already formed his own company after being in the CIA. Since we book our speakers about 1 1/2 years ahead, the topic choice was indeed prescient.

Anyway - the presentation was excellent and if he betrayed any bias at that time at all, it was in frustration with all previous administrations in not going after the topic as hard as he thought necessary. A very nice, scarily intelligent and articulate guy.

I cannot pinpoint when he "turned" to see the light about Bushco - but I do not think it was long after this talk. He used to be a regular (maybe under contract?) on CNN and others, but once he plainly "turned", have not seen so much of him since.

His company helps individuals and corporations in harm's way to learn protective measures as far as I know. I do not know if his company provides the actual security personell.

I wonder if a Repug candidate who made the right noises about what he cares about most would lure him back to the dark side, or if he indeed has seen the light and will be a Dem or Liberal Indie for some time to come.

Anyway, I liked him and read his blog regulary.

PS - To Larry - if you check into DU - my dear friend Nancy took you to the airport and before leaving, you kissed her on the cheek. She had just been through a very nasty divorce and it perked her up considerably. Shortly thereafter, she went 'on the hunt' and is now very happily remarried. Cause and effect????
