War Stress may hit part-time Soldiers the Hardest
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2006-09-28-iraq-weekend-warriors_x.htm

The Wars in Iraq and Afgnistan appear to be taking a greater toll on the mental health of the so-called weekend warriors than on that of active-duty troops. the Army's leading expert on combat stress said during a congressional hearing Thursday.

Army Col. Charles Hoge testified that 41% of national Guardsmen and reservists raised concerns about their mental health in answers to a survey taken three to six months after they return from combat.

That compares with 32% of active-duty troops who responded to the survey, say Hoge a psychiatrist with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and exprt in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

And are so-called weekend warriors are finding that VA does not care about them. You guys know I fight for these kids but the dam VA just don't think they are worth their time.

1. The part time guys have so much less that they can predict
to a certainty -- when they're in, out, when they can get care, no wonder they're more vulnerable. And probably the same can be said for their families.

Aren't these families less likely to be in the community of military families, as well? So, there's less support available to the whole family?
