Foley will commit suicide
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 08:50 PM by newsguyatl
i just have the feeling that his type would NEVER do time in jail... and i sense, especially with news out tonight, that he knows that very well could happen.

i imagine seeing what this is causing his colleagues in washington is only making the public lynching that much worse -- and makes him fear repercussion that much more.

and i don't think it's too far fetched to imagine that there are MORE incidents to come out. MANY more.

what's left for foley now... BUT jail? ((or at best, a solitary life of disgrace))

edited to add: i certainly am not WISHING or WANTING this to happen. simply speculating that it very well COULD happen.

...tho I don't wish death on either of them. Just good, long splashed-all-over-the-headlines prison sentences.

20. I posted that same thing on another thread.
Just because of the early chit-chat in the IM's about "what are you doing in Fl?" sounds to me like they knew each other well enough, and I suspect there is physical encounters in this story too! Wait and see.

That's not right to wish suicide on anyone! I wonder what your reaction would be if it were a Dem and conservatives were saying that?

My nephew killed himself six years ago, and I know first-hand how devastating that is to a family left behind. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

40. Apologies for insensitivity
I have also lost two people close to me due to suicide and I know how painful it is for the survivors on a first-hand level.

In the case of mark Foley, I couldn't be happier if he were dead. This man is a monster. I don't care if he were a Dem , A Puke, or a Green. For this man to masquerade as an advocate for children while, at the same time, trying to get in boy's pants is just vile. Hell is too good for people like Foley.

39. that has no bearing on this whatsoever...
Foley isn't someone who "knew too much" or "failed to keep his mouth shut," but a sick pervert who (it seems) was being protected by his political higher-ups for fear of losing a seat.

Furthermore, Foley was the focus of the cover-up, rather than someone who blew the whistle on the cover-up, so there's really no reason for retribution from the Repubs (after all, if this blows up in their faces politically, it'd be much more Hastert and Boehner/DeLay who are to blame, as they'd have been the ones that engaged in the cover-up--had they turned Foley in immediately, there'd be no political fallout, so any political damage belongs solely to anyone who knew about this and did nothing; they could conceivably be targeted by angry Repub apparatchiks, but not Foley).

Lastly, if Foley committed suicide, the logical explanation would be exactly what the OP suggested--that he was afraid of going to jail (and as a pedophile no less) and just wanted to end the humiliation--and not that the Republican leadership conspired to have him offed.

Hey, it might not have been tasteful - even sort of shameful in a moral sense - HOWEVER - Monica was in her 20s, you dumb a**es!

Foley was so stupid, he didn't think that IMs could be saved.

What a Maroon in addition to a Sexual Predator and Pervert! ::puke::

19. He isn't going to jail
The family isn't pressing charges, and the evidence was produced in what may be an illegal way, potentially making them inadmissable.

He won't be charged with anything unless he attempted to initiate an actual encounter with one of these kids.

Yes, I know that the explicit contact with someone that was a minor is illegal, but he will not be charged would be my guess.

28. Those IMs were with another underage male Page during 2003
We know nothing about him or his parents. However, if he's under the age of consent, it doesn't matter, the police MUST act and at least put Foley on the roster of persons to "monitor." Depending on this boy's age, they may charge Foley, despite what the parents of the boy or the teen himself has to say about it.

We are talking about future infractions that Foley is likely to do, i.e., protecting the public. This is an obsession with Foley, i.e., coming on to underage male pages. Who knows how many H.S. boys he has actually seduced over the years? :scared:

...because he is surrounded by corrupt, evil people who--right now--are probably
consoling him and throwing their support and comfort his way.

These Republicans are so vile...so sickening--and they've all been surrounded
by each other for so many years--that they do not feel remorse and shame the
way normal people do. They're mutual sickness insulates them from the real
world.

Foley isn't ashamed. He's pissed that he's been caught. Most members of Congress
view "We The People" with disdain and condescension. He doesn't care what we think
or what we know. Foley cares about being a do-nothing, corrupt Congressman who is
set for life.

He's lost that now, and I'm sure he's pissed, but not remorseful and certainly
not ready to throw in the towel. His colleagues--who most likely engage in the
same perverse behaviors--are surrounding him with comfort and hope.

These people are beyond repair. They feed off of each others sickness. They
are too selfish and cold to feel humility.

35. He Vanished Without A Goodbye
Not a press release or even a statement from a spokesman. All we heard was his resignation letter from the House clerk and poof. Doe anyone know where he went?

There is a reason for concern here as surely this man is having to face some major music...total rejection from his "friends" (who really weren't friends to start with) and his own inner demons. He's lived a double-life...and even worse, it appears he's lived contradictory ones that now have come in open conflict and he has lost it all almost overight. Just like the financier who jumps out the window when they see they've gone bankrupt I also see a very tragic situation at play here.

Remember, this is a Repugnican...one whose life relied on the approval of the most bigoted and unforgiving people on the face of this planet. He not only will get the cold shoulder, he'll become a target of ridicule as others failures will be pinned on him. Even with a strong family and/or partner, he's got some real rough and lonely days ahead.

This doesn't absolve him of what he's done or to feel sorry he resigned in disgrace. I'm glad he's gone. You bring up a very curious question that I've thought about today as well.

Cheers...
