5. Denny's. Around Closing Time.
Just stuck the little prick's head in the mop bucket and went to town.

Sorry. Couldn't Resist.

I have never seen Brown before today and I am just not that impressed. I have seen Hackett in debates and he is always brilliant. Just my observation as of this moment.

It was all Dewine and all Russert all the time.

and I've never been one to bash Russert, but how he tried ignoring Brown was pretty clear.

Now that is just sitting out their and everyone is going to believe DeWine. I think Brown is doing OK but he could be doing better.

17. well, that may have been good for the Democrats
Quite frankly DeWine came across as flat, while Sherrod Brown had energy and was able
to quote facts and talk about different localities in Ohio. DeWine kept referring to his
record.

12. I was surprised about DeWine's comment on Rumsfeld
He said that while he has stated that he has no confidence in Rumsfeld, he (DeWine) is not
the president and the choice of who picks the Secretary of Defense is the president. The
argument here is that while that may be true, the Congress has oversight of the executive
branch and is supposed to make it accountable. Rumsfeld has done an abysmal job, and
it sounded to me like DeWine believes in the Unitary Executive premise and will not ask for
accountability.

It is one thing to say you have no confidence, but if where is the accountability? That's his job! :)

he came across as tired and flat, if I had been from Ohio, I would not have been impressed.
I thought he waffled on the Foley thing, Brown said he wanted an immediate investigation.

23. I gotta say I have been screaming at him...
He did not vote for the Iraq war...

Russert pointed that out...

Why does he not say.

"If more people, including my oponent, had voted with me on this, 2,900 American servicement would still be alive today"

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are a democrat who didn't vote for the war you should be beating everyone over the head with it constantly.

That's my opinion.

"Everyone thought they had WMD..."

"uhhh not me!"

How hard is that?

on MTP in these debates.

At least talking about the real issues. DeWine comes out as a whiner, and very afraid of losing this election.

30. I think most here are disappointed because he is not liberal
he is a moderate dem running as a centrist, well, maybe that is what is needed to win in
Ohio, they were blathering on Tv about Michael Steele making the senate race competitive here
in Maryland. I can tell you that Steele is not going to win the Maryland Senate race
unless it is rigged in a major way.

record and stop at one vote (as important as it is), it is their problem, not mine.

Brown: voted against IWR, against the 98 billions, ..., opposed NAFTA, China trade agreement, ..., pro-choice, ...

They are unhappy because of the shenanigans that Schumer pulled, I understand that, but that does not justify blindness, IMHO, or it is how we will lose election after election.

People like Webb or Lamont are a lot more centrist than Brown is.

Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 11:08 AM by MissWaverly
a loose cannon and letting his staff release that negative stuff to the press about
Brown afterward confirmed that for me. She was offended by him calling the President
a "crack" head. Well, he may have been too radical for the Dems to handle. Before
I get flamed here, there has to be a way to get your points across w/o name calling.
Once you have done that it erodes your credibility. Look at Chavez and the devil
remark. Chavez has many legitimate complaints about US interference but who
is going to listen now?

34. I just felt Brown let DeWine get away with too much
DeWine fired several shots at Brown and Brown left them hanging out their. For instance DeWine said Brown voted against giving the troops body armor five times and Brown never corrected the record. I didn't think Brown was ready for the question about what to do next in Iraq either. He was stumbling around. Brown found his footing during the second half of the debate on connecting DeWine to the Republican culture of corruption and on things like trade and jobs. I think Brown won but he got off to a slow start.

36. Well, I think Russert's style may have had a lot to do with that
I notice that Brown didn't seem to get as much time to respond as DeWine, DeWine would talk
for maybe 5 minutes, where Brown just had enough time for a soundbite, that's what it seemed
like to me.

32. I'm disappointed.
This is the first time I've really heard him speak, & I wasn't really impressed. He let a lot of charges stand w/o rebuttal, and he kept spitting out the same talking points w/o responding to the questions asked. He just didn't come off as very intelligent, sorry. DeWine was bad too, mostly cause he's a Bushbot w/an indefensible record, but he came off as more mature. I'd say it's a toss up. (And I'm not a Hackett fan).
