How do you know HasTert is guilty?
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 07:53 PM by bac511
I heard him talking today and I don't know what to think now. Is there evidence that he knew of the IM's before Friday or did he just know about the emails? From what I know the emails weren't graphic or suggestive, albeit, a bad idea for a congressman to be emailing a 16 yr old page, but if they weren't against the law and that is the only thing HasTert knew about, then why is he guilty as well.

Don't get me wrong, I think Foley should burn and he disgusts me, but why is everyone trying to bring down Hassert as well if all HasTert knew about were the weird, but not sexual emails. Did he really know about the IM's too?

2. The man's name is HasTert.
With every other thread on DU about this topic, it seems like it might have sunk in by now.

3. Pages were warned 5 years ago to stay away from Foley
Hastert had to know. If the pages knew, Hastert knew.

10. Right, you either absolutely remember or you were

6. This is too simple... It was Denny's job to investigate it. There was kids
at stake here. They couldn't investigate it. The demos didn't know about it and could not investigate it. Foley wasn't going to turn himself in. So it was left do Denny the leader of all that it is good and right about how country, to here the repugs tell it to do something.

8. If he did not know, he's incompetent and should be tossed out.
If he did know, he's incompetent and an accessory and should be tossed out.

9. sick, sick, sick
That's what the page said about the emails. An adult wanting pics of a teen-age employee IS sick, sick, sick. Other Republicans said they told him, said they questioned him and Hastert said "I'm on it"

So open-minded your brains fall out. Guard against it.

11. Hastert is responsible for these reasons:
As Majority Speaker of the House he is responsible for the safety and security of all those under him which includes the pages and he failed in his duty to protect them.

He was informed about a problem with foley and did nothing about it. He did not ask for any details, he did not investigate to see if there was anything to it, he did nothing.

His subordinates did nothing about it, they did not inform the full Page Board, instead, the House member to whom the page expressed his concern, went to the guy who heads their re-election committee about it and he, in turn, went to the republican on the Page Board and the republican only.

Hastert should resign.

13. Ok. Look at it this way.
At your son's high school, a young guy receives a message (or several) from one of the coach's. The coach treats the young guy in a very friendly way - not as teacher to student but as 'friend' to 'friend'. The coach then asks the young guy for a picture of him. Young guy is creeped out and tells the Principal. Principal asks Coach what was up with that. Coach says, uh, not to worry, I won't talk with that young guy again. Principal goes back to his office for a nap and doesn't follow up (ever) with any other questions or investigation into what else the Coach may be communicating to other young guys.

Next season, your son/daughter receives a communication from the Coach and is asked for a picture...
