3. He showed his true colors after 9/11
back in the 90s, everyone figured he was just a satirist and a comedian, because he made fun of politicians (especially Dems and Clinton) and trashed them regularly.

But, Bush got in power, and after 9/11 Miller declared that Bush would get a free pass.

When you trash a political party when they are in power, you are a satarist.

When you trash a political party when they are out of power while praising the party in power, you are just a pathetic court jester.

I actually started turning off him a bit before he went rightwing, but I LOVED his earlier stuff.

He's not an untalented guy, IMO. I know a lot of people would disagree with me on that.

29. I can't agree he is talented....he was talented
But he left that behind. His career has mirrored his loss of talent. What he had didn't translate to being a right wing shill. The average right winger didn't get all the obscure references humor before he crossed over to begin with. In order to successful as a right wing shill, you have to talk in very easy to understand bitesize chunks. Or put more simply, Miller's brand of humor appears to be just pompous windbaggery, which let's face it, was his whole schtick all along.

19. the reason he started to get less funny BEFORE 911, which he did, IMO,
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 10:30 PM by Gabi Hayes
is easy: he lost his best writers.

that's all it was.

very simple

I used to like him, too. taped a TON of his HBO shows, and noted that he became less and less funny about two years before they booted him. I also noted the change in his writing staff. seemed pretty obvious to me.

did you see him try to compare Bush with Lincoln and Truman. JS wasn't having any, so he tried to bail by saying that he's never seen a president as HATED as those two during their terms of office as Bush!

guess he was asleep during Clinton, and his knowledge of history gapped up between Lincoln and Truman (like during, say, FDR????)

what a pathetic aholio he's become...laughing HARD HARDER and HARDEST at his very unfunny stuff, trying to make Stewart play along

on a TV comedy pilot - it played at a particular time on a particular cable station and right after they called me and asked me a shit load of questions about it - well Dennis was one of the characters - EVERY question they asked me about him I rated him a BIG FAT 0 and told them every chance I got that I think he stinks - very satisfying as I have thought Dennis Miller to be a world class shit head for A LONG TIME

yep, he's a rethuglican. His whole spiel is making fun of fat people. Now he is backing away from repugs - he is a "Libertarian." What people who have drank the Kool Aid, make an ass of himself but can't admit he was totally, completely, horribly wrong. Miller hasn't been funny in years.

He is trying out his "new" material (all of it sounds rehearsed rather than just a conversation between Jon and a guest) and it is stupid. No, really, beyond stupid. Think Tiny Tim in his later years pathetic.

His career is in the toilet. Backed the wrong horse and now plays the fool. How nice of Jon to throw him a bone.

Tried but couldn't.

It's a snappy retort, but it ain't true. Cuz Dennis is a bottom. Got an old album of his somewhere around the house...couldn't sell it at a garage sale OR on eBay...where he describes crawling across the bedroom carpet to kneel at his wife's feet with what I'll describe as a vibrating personal appliance inserted in a very personal body cavity, and you know from the way he says it, it's not a joke.

31. I think he did well on SNL and on one HBO special
that I still have on tape called, "Dennis Miller: Black and White," but that was when he skewered everyone or at least tried to give equal time to both sides. There's no one who can make obtuse references like he can, but intelligence-wise and in terms of thinking deeply about issues, he probably looks like he's moving in slow-mo to Jon.

Until he got to the political stuff. Although the falcon line about Chavez was good. He knows he backed the wrong horse as Stewart said but he can't go back on it now. At the end of the day the right wing crowd is lucrative for him and we won't take him back if he switched again. He's stuck.

The same right wingers who claim the media is liberal all the time whined and bitched about him, not knowing his politics, but assuming he was liberal, and claiming ABC was trying to bring politics into the broadcast booth. He was gone after one year. Since then, he's taken to pandering to those same assholes by being an asshole himself. He's a coward.

48. I never liked him.
In his years on SNL, the only time I really remember laughing was when Dana Carvey sat next to him at the Update anchor desk; Carvey was dressed like Miller and was wearing a black wig and did a pretty funny impression of Miller. I thought that people like Norm MacDonald and Jane Curtin and a few others did a much better job as the "anchor" of Weekend Update.

I heard some of his "standup" a few years ago on the radio and he was just going on and on and on about how the election of Georgie has allowed him to "honor and respect the office of the President again" :puke: All I kept thinking about was how pissed I would be if I had paid to see someone do standup and instead had to listen to the rw talking points that he was spewing. On The Daily Show it seemed that Miller was afraid to stop talking out of fear that no one (except for himself) would be laughing at what he had to say.
