to get them to give up their nukes now that they have them, than it would have cost us to get them to stop working on them before they succeeded.
That's just for starters.
Then there are all the unpredictable things that may happen as other countries in the region re-evaluate their own position on nuclear weapons. That could get a whole lot worse, the potential costs there range all the way up to accidental firing of missiles brings on the end of the world.
