So when will they question the "Hastert Land Deal?"

On June 15, the Chicago Sun-Times reported:

House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert pocketed almost $2 million from real estate deals adjacent to his Plano home in booming Kendall County, one of the fastest growing areas in the nation.

The transactions prompted questions Wednesday from the Sunlight Foundation, a new watchdog group, about whether Hastert, who earmarked $207 million in federal dollars for the proposed Prairie Parkway, had his profits swollen because of the highway.

In an October 6 column for The New Republic Online, American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Norman Ornstein and Center for American Progress senior fellow Scott Lilly wrote that Hastert "played an unusually active role in shepherding" the 2005 transportation bill, to which he earmarked the funds for the Prairie Parkway, "a more aggressive role than he played at any other point in his speakership." Ornstein and Lilly also wrote:

The Hastert earmark not only provided money for Parkway construction but mandated that the construction take place on the portion of the Parkway nearest his recently purchased property. While the money contained in the highway bill was sufficient to build only about one-third of the entire 36-mile road, the speaker insured that the right third would be selected by also earmarking funds for construction of a interchange in that portion of the proposed thooughfare .

7. Do you expect
the MSM to question Hastert's deal. He is a republican. They only post obscure information about democrats. Wonder if they will go back fifty years and post some of the schoolyard fights the dems had.

8. Talk About A Road To Nowhere
Looks like this road goes right from Denny's house to the non-existant airport his buddy George Ryan wanted to build. This area is growing, but is years from needing a major highway...as opposed to other parts of the Chicago metro (especially Lake County).

10. here's a funny thought: what we need in the burbs is....
more public transportation

I looked into taking a bus from Glenview to Arlington Heights (9 miles) a few years ago, and it would have taken TWO and a half HOURS

12. Public Transportation??? What's That?
I'm near Woodfield...they have one bus that runs down Higgins Road at 6:30am, a second at 6:30pm...yep, we all crowd aboard.

Gym Teach Denny's held up the funding to expand the CTA along the Tollways...but at least we have Metra.

I do have to chuckle at all these SUV owners who have to scrape up $70 dollars or more to fill up their gas hogs...many used to have those yellow ribbons around here. Few do now.

Cheers...
