the greatest Cut and Runner in United States History was....
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 12:32 AM by LSK

George Washington

In 1776 he Cut and Run from Brooklyn

then he Cut and Run from New York City

then he Cut and Run from Manhatten Island

then he Cut and Run from White Plains NY

then he Cut and Run across New Jersey all the way to Pa.

Then he crossed the Delaware River and finally won a battle at Trenton on Christmas night 1776.

So when they want to use "Cut and Run" remind them of Americas greatest Cut and Runner.

Sometimes it is wiser to retreat.

3. This post does nada for me. To equate anyone, especially the
imbecile we have to deal with, does a disservice to GWashington.

7. are we having a great big disconnect here??
They call us Cut and Runners. Instead of letting our troops getting slaughtered for nothing, lets retreat or phased withdrawls or redeploy (like Murtha says). Thats when the right says we are cut and running.

Well George Washington did not feel like having his troops getting slaughtered on Long Island, so he redeployed to New York City. Then he saw himself loosing the upper hand so he reployed from NYC. George Washington knew there was no shame in retreating. He knew when to fight and when not to fight.

The right calls people who want to leave Iraq as cut and runners. But those who want to leave Iraq are doing the same thing Washington did in 1776 in the early stages of the war.

10. Your previous comment about Murtha got my ire up.
And from you, I'm shocked.
We need to get out of Iraq, Murtha, Kerry, Feingold, et. al, should get props, because that's the only recourse Baker as in James, will put forth. Which Dem did he steal his new deal from.
At this point, it doesn't matter.

Two years ago, it didn't matter. Let's stop killing soldiers and figure out why the most delusional
asshole in the world is the prz of the United States?

11. you still don't get what I am trying to say
To the right anyone who wants to get out of Iraq is a cut and runner. It is the pet talking point when it comes to Iraq.

Well using that same retarded logic, they would have to call George Washington a cut and runner too.

Its a talking point that uses arguably the greatest American and the father of our country and labels his tactics early in the Revolutionary War as also cut and running.

Washington = Murtha = Kerry

To call Murtha or Kerry a cut and runner, they have to call Washington a cut and runner.

You know I'm on your side when it comes to Iraq.

This is an idea to get rid of the stupid cut and run rhetoric.

I'm sick of the "cut and run" rhetoric too. You did a good job of shoving historical fact up their fascist asses and twisting it.

14. Actually that winter was a thrilling story
Sending out runners to have boats and fresh horses ready, for all those water crossings. You see they (IIRC) didn't take horses across the water with them. THey arranged to meet fresh horses upon completing the crossing. SO according to the Brits Washington vanished, and ended up to the rear of the British formation.

ANd when it was all done, Washington ended up where no British officer thought he could be. And Washington attacked from where he shouldn't have been, freakin genius. Tactically brilliant, still taught to this day. Sun Tzu would be proud.

Lesson:

Fight Smart.

Rummy is stupid.

Washington wasn't stupid. He fought for something he beleived in. RUmmy is just stupid.

17. Let me spell it out for you
Getting out of Iraq is the "smart" thing to do .. right? US troops are in an untenable position.

Washington knew when it was the "smart" thing to do, getting out of NYC/Long Island. US troops were in an untenable position.

Staying in Iraq is Stupid, US troops are in an untenable position. Washington was not stupid, he was smart.

Excellent lesson in Military history, great post. KNR.

12. I believe the accurate term is strategic redeployment...
We're going to withdraw, but its gotta have some order to it and we have to give the Iraqi government a chance to defend itself.

16. Bravo! Good post. I hate the way the rethugs abuse words
and use tone and snide aside to somehow make a thing sound bad when it is neutral in and of itself.

There are times when you are supposed to retreat, not just let yourself be slaughtered.

Is there a word that sounds negative for "blindly continuing a losing game, regardless of the unnecessary loss?" Maybe we should ask a right-winger. They are so good at negativity.

18. Its called, "Gettin your ass outta where it don't belong", sometimes a..
very good idea. And the US needs to get completely out of Iraq RIGHT NOW and let the Iraqi people determine their own fate.

Its called "freedom"!

Freedom to succeed also means freedom to fail. Its up to them.
