"Jesus Camp" is a MUST SEE documentary!
Saw this movie tonight. VERY POWERFUL! Please go see it. It will show you just how powerful this group of Evangelicals is in American politics. These people should not be discounted. They are VERY GOOD at what they do. This is a documentary about a group in the midwest that works to get very young children to discount the idea of "separation of church and state" and to believe that they must be politically active. No matter what your feelings on religion are, please see this movie and take as many people as you can to see it. The Foley scandal won't make these people go away. David Kuo's book won't make these people go away. These people are "true believers" in their cause and they have dedicated their lives to tranforming American youth and the next generation to believe and vote in a certain way. It's easy to discount them as just a few nut jobs. You won't do so after you see this movie.

Here's a link to read more about the movie (and no, I don't have anything to do with this movie or those that produced it).

5. Oh, I certainly don't discount them
They are a threat to democracy and they hate our freedom. All reality is upended by them. I resent their intrusion into my life and their constant pushing of their fantasy world into my life and in the lives of people I care about and love.

I have come to really resent christianity because of the dominant christian taliban in America.

6. No thanks
I know how they operate and I don't have to give them my money to continue their "crusade" against the American people and the children of the radical christians especially.

Their behavior will trigger a whole new need for deprogrammers, reminiscent of the cult deprogrammers of the past.

No. They will have to get along without my money.

9. No, this is produced by
"Magnolia pictures/Lodi films" in cooperation with A&E Indie films. This is not a film that the Evangelicals would be proud of. There is a lot of commentary from Air America Radio's Mike Pappantonio. He comes off as the "sane" one. These people are exposed for what they are. I'm just saying that they are very good at their "brainwashing" and that this film shows that. It will make you even more motivated to defeat their cause by seeing it. At least, that's how it made me feel.

7. Dunno - Triumph Of The Will had better cinematography, I'll bet . . .
And didn't have nearly the same sort of smug self-righteousness I'll likely witness in Jesus Camp . . .

11. Lifesize Bush Cutout Worship scene
Probably the most "disturbing" scene is when the children are encouraged to worship, chant, and pray over a large than life size GWB cardboard cutout. There were many audible gasps in the theater.

12. Saw it today
I file it under "Know your adversary".

This movie is disturbing on many levels. I did a report on cults when I was in HS, (Had to pick a Christian denomination other than Catholicism and do a report. I picked the Moonies.) The camp uses so many of the techniques that cults do on adults.

You see exactly how the camp people brainwash the children. What's really scary is that many of the saner Evangelicals think what the camp is doing is wrong (a couple letters in todays op ed section) and the subjects of the movie are thrilled that a movie was made. Most people who aren't "True Believers" tm will see the scariness.

I saw it with a couple friends. We agreed that the movie was perfect for Halloween. It was more terrifying than all the Friday the 13th movies, all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, every vampire and zombie movie ever made.

These kids were fed inaccurate information, whether science or history.

Imparting values to a child doesn't mean taking away that kid's ability to think for themselves.

A humorous scene: Lunchtime. A table full of boys. One boy says to another that he looks like Harry Potter. "Harry" says that he doesn't know who that is, his parents don't let him watch movies. Other kid says that his mom doesn't either, but when he goes to his dad's he gets to watch all kinds of things.

Disturbing scene: In one family, the pledge of allegiance to the Christian Flag of America. It's white with a red and blue cross in the corner. The Taliban have a white flag, and the camp called to mind Taliban madrassas. The camp director even said that the Muslims were training kids to carry AK47s, therefore Christians had to do the same sort of thing to counter it. And I immediately thought of the Children's Crusade in the Middle Ages, where there weren't enough adults to go fight, so they had to send kids.

The sad thing is, if the Evangelicals don't keep political power, these kids are going to be left behind. They will be unprepared for life in the real world, where the laws of physics applies, and not everyone believes as they do. They may break free, or they may be trapped in a one-dimensional life.

It would be interesting to see what happens in 20 years with the same kids.
