every Jean Schmidt yard sign... went down overnight- NOT VANDALISM!!
from Jellypuddin over at DailyKos.

Now, with only a week to go in her re-election she's stepping right into the shit by saying that storing of the worlds nuke materials in my section of Ohio was something she has no problem with and in fact she see's the economical advantages of doing so.

<snip>
"All I can tell you is that when it became known that she supports this, every Jean Schmidt yard sign in the county went down overnight," said Geoffrey Sea, a writer whose home abuts the Piketon plant.

<snip>
UPDATE BuckeyeHamburger was kind enough to post Victoria Wulsin's web site....we need to send her some money and support her.Looks like she's gonna win this bigtime... http://www.wulsinforcongress.com/ Go see what she is all about....pretty great candidate for coming from the bowells of conservative Ohio...I'm very impressed. VOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Democrat

25. It's very trying
to see looks and fashion interwoven so strongly with every criticism of female politicians.

If we mock her for her choices and stands on the issues, or her word choices, that's excellent. But mocking her for "having wrinkles" - what message are we actually sending with that? If you were an older woman on DU with wrinkles, what would your personal reaction to that be? Would you feel insulted?

It's a matter of collateral damage - the mindset is that it's okay to attack her IN ALL WAYS because we despise her. She's fair game. But people ignore the impact on the self-esteem of everyone else who sees a bit of themselves in that comment - it's part of the constant reminder that people think women with wrinkles are sub-standard in some way.

37. Wait, in case you haven't noticed, on DU
when a Repuke - male or female - does or says something stupid, ALL aspects of that Repuke become fair game. Including physical aspects.

How many times have you seen references to Limpball's or Hastert's obesity? As an overweight person myself, I have no problem seeing them refered to as "fat fucks".

On the other hand, I have seen Cindy Sheehan, Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Boxer described as being "beautiful" - and let's face it, none of them are Cindy Crawford.

Therefore, my experience on DU is that most male DUer's judge political women on their positions and actions and not their physical appearance.

The inner beauty shines through, while inner ugliness is ugly to the bone.

50. Yeah. It's not like women outspend men 3::1 on clothing, makeup, and diet
...products, after all, huh? :eyes: I mean, let's be fair and balanced. Nobody on DU ever says Keith Olbermann is a 'hottie' - and nobody ever says Rush is "fat' and nobody ever criticizes Dubya for what he wears - on his feet, for instance.

51. Women do outspend men on clothing, makeup, and diet
That's not the result of human nature. It's cultural influences and more emphasis (despite the exceptions which prove the rule) placed upon women and looks. That difference in male vs. female dollars spent as consumers trying to achieve "beauty" is a symptom.

55. You know what? I don't get it.
That post had NOTHING to do with the fact that Arwa Damon is a woman. In fact, it just so happens that she IS. SHE just happened to be on my TV screen at that time of the morning (my OP shows 3:35am, but I guess I don't have my time zone set correctly on the board. It was actually 5:35am and I had just gotten up to take care of my puppy after only 3-4 hours of sleep so I logged on to DU for a bit until my eyes got droopy and I went back to bed.). I've made the same observation of Michael Ware but he didn't happen to be the PERSON on my screen for that 20 minute period early that morning.

My post was a sleepy, early-morning, foggy-brained satirical attempt to stab at the otherwise ubiquitous practice of teevee news to put forth the most beautiful possible faces and my intent would never have been to poke fun at Damon just becuase she's a woman. Her gendre had abslutely nothing to do with my comment.

The LAST thing I intended from that post was to hurt anyone's feelings or to come off as a hater. If I offended you, I am truly sorry.

26. Wulsin is a PERFECT contrast...
from Dr. Victoria Wulsin's site...

Improving the Health of Ohio Communities

Vic has practiced medicine in both rural and urban settings here in southwest Ohio. As Cincinnati's city epidemiologist, Vic fought deadly outbreaks of disease like whooping cough and influenza. In Adams County, she directed a health literacy program, and she currently serves as chair of the board of the Health Resource Center, a free clinic in Over-the-Rhine.

As a uniformed officer with the US Public Health Service, Vic brought unions and business leaders together to improve worker safety. Together, they reduced carcinogens in the workplace through a nation-wide effort against vinyl chloride, a chemical known to cause liver cancer. She has fought for occupational safety through her work with the International Chemical Workers and the United Steel Workers.

An International Perspective

Vic’s work as a doctor has taken her to over twenty nations. She directed a five-year, $30 million project to promote women’s health in five countries in Africa and Asia, and she finished the project on time and on budget. Vic assisted the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in reconstruction efforts following the genocide in Rwanda. Most recently she founded SOTENI International, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing HIV and AIDS among orphans in Kenya.

It pains me to say something like that, but any district that'd elect Mean Jean to Congress is populated with far too many maggot-brained scum. I detest J.D.Hayworth but Jean Schmidt doesn't even rise to his level in the human cess pool.

Dr. Wulsin is one of those precious human beings of which we have far too few ... a heroine.
