Poll: N.J. Democrat Leads Senate Race
By REBECCA SANTANA, Associated Press Writer

TRENTON, N.J. - Sen. Robert Menendez holds a slight lead over Republican Tom Kean Jr. in their Senate race with just over a week left before election day, a poll published Sunday found.

Democrat Menendez leads Kean 48-42 percent, according to a poll of 600 likely voters published Sunday in The Record of Bergen County.

Thirty percent of voters said the Iraq war was the most important issue in deciding their vote. Voters also want to see Democrats rather than Republicans control Congress, 53-35 percent.

President Bush remains unpopular, with only 37 percent saying he was doing an excellent or good job. Menendez's campaign strategy has been dominated by efforts to tie Kean to Bush administration policies, while Kean has painted Menendez as a corrupt politician.<snip>

2. That's great news!
For some reason NJ plays with voting repuke until the end and then they seem to come to their senses. I remember in '04 that the gop sent teams down their because the polls got close but in the end they finished pretty strong in the Kerry column.

New Jerseyans like me have to do a lot of holding their noses when they vote.

To paraphrase kos, "New Jerseyans hate their Dems, but they hate their Repubs more"

Another exception to that rule would be Sen. Lautenberg (not up for election this time)--one of the greatest senators in the entire country.

3. 6 points = "slight lead" ????
I realize that there is a margin of error and all, but that's more than a slight lead.
I can imagine if Bush went up 6 points in his personal approval. It would not be called a "slight increase."

7. Kean and Menendez won't even appear on the same stage lol.
So Menendez gets uninterrupted time to bury Kean, lol again.

The poll here also shows the bush cellar rating right in line with all the other major polls. So that shows me the rest of this poll result is probably just as accurate.

Senator Menendez, carry on.

Kean, turn out the lights as you leave. We're cutting spending.

10. Menendez in the lead. I hope to see that trendline continue for
another 9 days.

Kean, Jr. just doesn't impress me much at all.
