Let's get something straight. Lieberman was never the worst Democrat:
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2006/Info/senator-ratings.htmlSure, he sucked on Iraq, filibustering Alito, and was sanctimonious with regard to Clinton. I wanted Lamont as much as anyone, but I never thought Lieberman was horrendous. Besides that, we need him.
Assuming Webb and Tester win, we need him to ensure that the Democrats control the Senate. I'm sure he'll be offered a committee chairmanship, and it's quite possible the Republicans might try to entice him with a powerful committee chairmanship. We have to keep him where he says he wants to stay, in the Democratic caucus. But again, he's far from being the worst Democrat.
I hope the Lamont candidacy made Lieberman reflect and that he will be more loyal to the critical core issues in the future. But, even if he remains the same old Joe, he's still not the worst Democrat in the Senate.
