Can we send the LAPD to Baghdad?

Seriously, is there something about the police there or is it just my perception? I don't know if UCLA cops are part of the LAPD, but still..

In Iraq, it's apparently a 12-year program. I suspect they cut corners here in the States.

5. The UC PD isn't part of the LAPD.

UC is an odd sort of land grant college, established by the state and a sort of stand-alone entity. It has its own police force. They can arrest. When I was there they weren't authorized to *routinely* carry firearms, but were authorized to use firearms on an ad hoc basis and, IIRC, even had an in-house SWAT team organized.

Hell, in the 90's UC even disputed LA's authority to inspect food-preparation facilities on UC grounds and the firechief's authority to do fire inspections (they had in-house inspectors for both tasks). I think I was told that there's a standing invitation for the fire department to come onto the property in case of fire.

I'm not sure if the differing jurisdictions hold for LA land bought by UC or just for the original land grant. But Powell Library was certainly on the original beanfields, one of the original four buildings, with only Kinsey separating it from the old gully.

All those student government/administration breakfasts were good for something: trivia.
