Now I understand McCain's cowardly and new stance on abortion

McCain Hires Key Falwell Staffer For Presidential Campaign

McCain and FalwellIn 2000, John McCain called Jerry Falwell an “agent of intolerance.” Now, he has hired the debate coach from Falwell’s Liberty University, Brett O’Donnell, to advise him on his communications strategy. O’Donnell has been executing Falwell’s strategy to train scores of debaters to confront “the culture on moral default.”

Falwell said the hiring should not be considered an endorsement:

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, chancellor of the Lynchburg university, said he has not endorsed a candidate, and O’Donnell’s appointment should not be interpreted as a signal that he is backing McCain…”Senator McCain is getting a real winner, and I’m sure Brett will be a great help to him,” Falwell said. “He’s getting Brett at the peak of his production.”

McCain also delivered the commencement address at Liberty University this summer.

1. As much as I dislike McCain
and he was SUCH a disapoitnment to me,

cowardly is not a word I would ever use when referring to this man.

Setting that aside, I would never vote for him.

15. McCain.
He was brave in Vietnam. And we might be tempted to give him breaks as an individual for what he endured. But we should never consider ourselves obligated to remain silent when he, in his position as a public figure and political leader, is willing to humiliate himself .... especially when he seeks to do it at our expense.

Perhaps some are uncomfortable with the word "coward." Yet his recent actions appear to be those of a spineless opportunist.

24. It's ok, I know what you meant
and I agree with you in principle. I do think he is a spineless opportunist.

My only concern was with the word "coward", which immediately reminded me of what the 'pugs did to John Kerry.

FWIW, :loveya:

23. I for one have been.
However you speak the truth, forty years would seem to be a long enough pass, especially considering that he didn't feel obligated to speak up very loudly for fellow veterans Kerry or Cleland. I think his pass has just expired.

3. I would. When he can sentence soldiers to endure torture
when he himself knows exactly what it is and what it does, that's cowardice.

5. That I agree
political whore is a more appropriate description of McCain's behavior.

We should be careful to say what we mean, and mean what we say.

Cowardice is not the right term.

12. Bush Whore, yes. Coward, no.
Let us keep our evaluation of the man in the political arena separate and apart from our evaluation of him in the field of battle.

No person who has served his country and worn the uniform of the United States, should ever be disparaged in this manner.

We do not want to stoop to the level of the Swift Boat Veterans.

We are Democrats; we should know better.

We'll just have to disagree.

Yes, there are many ways to display courage, and the battle field is not the only one.

But it IS one way to display courage.

Nobody who has displayed courage, either in the battlefield, police action, firefighting, or any situation where one's life is put in harm's way to protect the lives of others, should ever be dismissed as a coward.

PS: How do you feel about the way John Kerry's military record was disparaged by the 'pugs?

Do you think it was fair to ridicule his three Purple Hearts?

I don't.

I'm ridiculing him because he is a coward who puts the interests of the GOP over the interests of America. HE IS A F***ING TRAITOR.

Let's be clear; I hate the guy.

I just don't want him ridiculed as a coward.

For Kerry's sake, and for Murtha's.

7. People can change....... just because he was a brave man once
doesnt mean he isnt a coward now. I could never forgive someone for trashing my family the way he has seemingly done. Does that make him a better man? I dont think so.....just a power hungry one.

17. I would never vote for a two-faced hypocritical coward who enabled torture
when he, of all people in the Congress, knew better. May he get a pile of just desserts heaped upon him with every woman of a lick of sense, and men too, voting against him who has sold his soul to Lucifer imo for a pot of political gold.

10. I'm just not getting the Repukes. I strongly believe that the public
made a definite statement in this last election, and they aren't willing to tolerate those that have been running this country...and that includes the Christian Right. I understand that this is McCain's way of trying to get past the primaries, but it will not endear him to the general populace.

I don't think the Repukes get it, based on their actions. The people don't want any more of the same. And the Repukes keep trying to give it to them.

11. McLame is hypocrite and a fool.
He thinks that if he gets the Busholini base to endorse him that he can garner the Rethug nomination. I suspect that he has made a deal to get Jeb Bush as VP.

16. He's definitely sold his soul to the devil, in pursuit of power. And I just
wish he'd run with Jeb Bush. The loss to the Repukes would be overwhelming, IMO.

Jeb as VP is a very dangerous choice if you value your life. Ask Reagan.

13. McCain is a trainwreck of a man
I keep watching him bemusedly, wondering what new depths he will plumb in his desperation.

He isn't quite like say Bush, in that, he has done some stuff that (on the face of it at least) is admirable (many aeons ago but still I wouldn't have ever called him as pathetic as say Bush).

But now watching him is SO like looking at a trainwreck -watching him fall lower and lower and lower......

22. It is like McCain has become a Stepford Wife
They took him and replaced him with duplicate who follows all the RW rules.

It shows me McCain has no backbone, that he is willing to say or do anything (both in 2000 and now) to win. Anything.

25. This explains why he's not on Jon or Stephen anymore
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 09:36 PM by krispos42
Last time I saw him on the Daily Show, Jon asked him a couple of pointed questions and McCain looked like a deer in the headlights that wanted to crawl away and hide.

He used to be on TDS fairly regularly. Not anymore.

<edit: there's no 'a' in Stephen!!!>
