18. I haven't accepted and won't accept it
Just watch me and wait. Something's planned. It's positive, and it's going to help us, but the establishment won't like it at all.

...because if we leave it to other people, we get the latter.

5. Congress Dems need us to back em up to do the right thing
Hi P. In the mix of false premises, false choices and poor prognosticating, there isn't much mention of what Dems on The Hill may be afraid of. This dance of words and "off the table" business seems about more than strategery...................... ?

7. Yeah, I don't know. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt...
...but I've been burned and sold out enough by politicians that they're going to have to earn my trust with some solid representative action. I'm more optimistic of our near future than I've been in years, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Then, if they don't impress me pretty quickly with some trust-building, I'm putting some fire to their asses. Our ancestors didn't die so that we could live in a fascist state.

6. We live in a representative democracy.
The people may be the deciders in the long run, but in the short run it is the elected representatives who are the deciders. And a good percentage of "the people" have opted out of the system. Isn't what they call a "push poll" designed to get the result you desire? Really, you should be more clever.

8. These are the real choices, not the false choices currently in vogue here
false choices based on false premises.

And it challenges another false assumption:

"And a good percentage of "the people" have opted out of the system."

That's a vote for the second choice.

Really, you should be less snide. :hi:

13. Well, when 40% or so of the eligible voters do not vote in a presidential election,
I view that as opting out. They are not part of the people who are the deciders and they are a big chunk. Isn't the poll kind of like asking "when did you stop beating your wife"? I thought I was being snide in the proper measure. :)

28. Snide is as snide does

Has that percentage been updated since Nov. 7, 2006?

Anyway, ya got me. What I meant was that the false assumption is owned of those (whatever percentage) who don't vote and are actually voting for the second choice.

All those who think they can sit back and watch this trainwreck from the sidelines are mistaken.

And like Rome under Caesar Augustus onward, we won't see its return -- until we do something to reign in the power of corporations within our government.

21. Only 90%?!
:wtf:

Why anyone would choose to give up what this country was founded upon-By and For The People-and let some selfish greedy bastards control everyone for the sake of the almighty dollar-their dollars mind you-is beyond me. Without the Constitution this country is nothing. Who in their right mind wants to become peons, serfs, slaves?!

The Constitution is Freedom!

:yoiks: :hi: !!!!!!!!!!! just joshin ya, TheGoldenRule (with porphyrian here, two of my favorite all time DU handles) I appreciate and relate to your outrage and you sound, well, educated.............

I think we are seeing the outcome of the (intentional) breakdown in education and civic (such an uncool word :sarcasm:) awareness; On Top Of the voluntary disempowerment of SOME post-Boomers who "rebel" by not giving a shit......

The problem here is we are all in this fishbowl. The Boomers learned that responsibility came with the rights. It's time to reinstill that notion. If Boomers have to get a spanking for tuning out and Gen XYZ needs to get their ennui washed out with soap SO BE IT!!!!!!!!111
