but I can now imagine.
Hide me! It's really awful because you can't see a soul, just noise and bombs going off. Imagine if they could hurt you.

Edit to add: the smell of napalm (OK, gunpowder, or whatever that stench is) is pervasive, and has been for hours. The night is still.

1. ....The recent 4th of July's have really made me think like never before
Every time I hear those explosions in the air I can't help but feel sympathy for those poor souls in Iraq who live with this every single day.

2. I'm glad you clarified the napalm part.
That would really be one rough ass neighborhood.

I agree that the randomness of a bombardment would be terrifying. Where do you hide? You just have to be lucky.

3. Where do you hide, indeed. Pray lots?
I am fortunate I now think that all the terror that reigned down upon us for years was discounted, but how shitty was that?
I'm getting braver! And the fact that there are so many "I"'s here stinks. That's what I know.

5. I heard a lot of fireworks going off ...
... but this year, I didn't hear any obvious gunfire. Or at least nothing close. That's a change from previous new year eves.

6. Had that a little while ago.
Oh my! I can understand pretty fireworks displays, but where the hell did people get the idea that setting off little bombs is the way to greet a new year?
