Happy New Year! Now go out and make a difference!
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 03:18 AM by Mythsaje
Put on your magical thinking hat. I promise it won't hurt.

Now march out into the world tomorrow and give some stranger a smile. Yeah, like that. Take a chance at being a human being, at putting a positive foot forward for 2007.

You know what really makes a difference in life? The people around you. You know, the cashier at the convenience store who's looking a little harried and could use a kind word. Or the traffic cop who's standing in the rain writing a speeding ticket. Or the gas station attendent sitting in that tiny booth bored out of his or her mind.

Take a little time and make a human connection.

That's what it's all about.

Change your inner dialog. Stop telling yourself what you CAN'T do, or can't accomplish, and tell yourself what you can. Toss away the demons of the last year and find renewal in a new path. If you go into the world with a smile and a kind word, you will receive them in kind. Everybody wins. You make someone's day, maybe they'll go on to make someone else's.

It's a kind of pay-it-forward. Positive change starts within yourself. Believe that you can, and you may! Believe that you won't, and you never will.

Silence that inner pessimist--he's an asshole anyway. He's never done you a damn bit of good. Shove a donut in his mouth and whistle your way out the door. Greet your neighbor with a bright smile and a friendly wave. And mean it.

The world needs more bright lights. Even when you're tired and a bit down, you can raise your own spirits by raising someone else's. How do I know this? Because I do it myself. Every day.

You could change a life...even your own.

4. I don't need holidays or new years to make a difference

I do it every day, all year long....by donating platelets, by sending postcards and packages to the troops, by using my feral trap to trap, fix and release ferals or get the kittens adopted...it's a never-ending thing for me, not some special time of the year thing
