cspan caller: 'the troops are over there cause they wanna be'
He was a bushwar supporter of course, he said 'they all volunteered, they're over there cause they wanna be, so stop trying to bring them home'.

This person actually belongs to the same species I do. How do they even dial a phone number?

Other callers keep poo pooing the 3000 as a low figure compared to previous wars so stop whining America.

I think I may be of a slightly different species than these particular primates.

1. I heard that too. The ignorance and shallowness of some citizens really amazes me.

2. I definitely believe there are different 'species' of humans...
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 07:35 AM by ixion
albeit in the non-scientific sense of the word. By that, I mean that while they may use the same set of building blocks, there are some fundamental differences in the 'recipe'. I don't think our various species will ever see the world from the same perspective, because we are hardwired in a different fashion.

This is also why government should a) not operate under any particular ideology; and, b) not try and legislate subjective (non-violent) morality, IMO.

with the magnetic "Support Our Troops" ribbons on their vehicles? Shame on them.

5. Just because they volunteer for the military
does not mean that the President has the right to send them to die for an illegal and immoral war. Why is recruitment down so much then? Because there are some who are realizing that they no longer trust their government enough to sign up. Our government has an obligation to use the military in order to protect the country. Sending them to Iraq had nothing to do with that issue at all. They should have all been sent to Afghanistan to capture and kill Bin Laden and then we should have left that hell hole as soon as that mission was accomplished. Bush has our military locked up indefinitely in both countries. Why don't we tell any of the troops in these countries that if they want to come home, they can. The ones who want to stay can stay. I bet most of them would love to come home if they had the chance.

3,000 "a small price to pay"
If I had happened to be close enough to the caller who said that "3,000 dead was a small price to pay" when he said it, I would be fined "a small price to pay" for kicking him dead in his ass.
Then the crock of crap had nerve enough to wish everyone "Happy New Year"; Let him wish that for the family of the kid from Texas who recently became the 3,000th, and the 2,999 other families as well, then find out just how happy the rest of their YEARS are going to be after the small price their sons and daughters paid.

18. A co-worker told me
"it's a war, people die."
So. There you go. It's just that simple.
Never mind WHY we're in this war. Or what we're supposed to be accomplishing.
Just...it's a war. People die. Now, go shopping. Watch "American Idol" and don't bother your "beautiful mind" with the deaths of these people you proclaim to respect and honor.

11. Naw, give him the armor, then
he'll be eligible for his limb replacement parts and his cut in VA benefits and lack of support for his PTSD. Then he'll have the chance to say, "The liberals were right all along."

Fall 'em in squad by squad, tell em, that they that want to be here stay in place, those that don't grab your shit and head for the "Freedom Bird". Then that stupid prick can go and take one of the available billets.

16. methinks you are correct.
there are sentient beings, (yourself included), barely sentient beings (Bush & co), and members of that sad collection of protoplasm, blood sera, bones, nerves and internal organs that remain alive only because their autonomic nervous system continues to function. There are only so many lobotomies that one can handle over time.

17. Doesn't he want to support his president's war? It would seem that he does. Why doesn't he enlist?
His president needs more troops for his surge, good time for this person to put up or shut up, I'd say.

20. The 3,000 figure is low compared to other wars depending on how you wish to look at it.
However, we have spent a hell of a lot more money on this war than in past wars and we still have a hell of a lot less to show for all of our "investments". Also, tens of thousands of soldiers who probably would have died 30 years ago from similar catastrophic wounds are now saved by our highly advanced medical technology. These soldiers make the US casualty numbers seem more tolerable but it's really just smoke and mirrors.
