made the remark of the year (OK, it's only Jan 1., but you know what I mean)

He wrote books on Ford...so when asked if Ford had ever mentioned the stuff that came out from Woodward this week, he said (and I'm paraphrasing): no, that he was writing a book which would be published in his (Ford's) lifetime, so Ford wouldn't say that stuff.

So therefore, I would infer that his books are largely filled with self-serving bullshit, since it was all tailored for contemporaneous public consumption.
