Statement by DNC Chairman Howard Dean Marking Eid al Adha
Chairman Howard Dean Marking Eid al Adha

"Today Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement marking the celebration of Eid al Adha:

"Eid al Adha carries two important meanings for Muslims. On the one hand it marks the end of the Pilgrimage to Mecca, and on the other it honors the story of faithful obedience in Ibrahim's or Abraham's willingness to offer what he held dearest, his own son.

"The recalling of this story sacred to all Abrahamic religions is also an opportunity for Muslims, Jews and Christians to remember their shared origins and to reflect on the importance of finding common ground in shared values.

"American Muslims, through their personal responsibility, dedication to community, and service have contributed greatly to our Nation. As we mark Eid al Adha, we recognize their invaluable participation in the life of our country and join in celebrating all our citizens' right to religious freedom and protection from profiling or intimidation.

"My family and I wish all Muslims a peaceful, joyful and blessed Eid al Adha."

6. Respect leads to understanding many things.
My parents were very accepting of me going to church with my childhood friends that were another religion. In college I study asian religions, and now because of this war, we are starting to hear about Muslims and their beliefs. Too bad it's at such a high cost of our soldiers lifes, and the Iraq population.

19. Howard Dean is not afraid of, nor does he feel superior to, those who are not like him.
He does not seek to destroy those who are different, but rather to cooperate with them.

Howard Dean is a stellar example of how those who are comfortable with their own culture and religion can appreciate the cultures and religions of others.

My wish for Howard Dean is that the year 2007 brings joyful abundance in all realms of his life.
