3,328 dead if you add the Afghani Theater
and we are not even counting all allied troops, or civilian casualties.

How many more George?

RIP

1. Not to split hairs, but Afghanistan is not really a "theater"
The greater Middle East is the "theater", while Afghanistan is an "Area of Responsibility" (AOR), currently under the tactical control of Combined Forces Command - Afghanistan (CFC-A)

2. If we are to split hairs

they are both part of CENTCOM, hence they should be reported TOGETHER

3. No, CENTCOM is the theater command
whose theater includes Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

To call Afghanistan a "theater" would require assigning a command equal to CENTCOM, which does not exist. CENTCOM, the theater commander, has subordinate commands, each in tactical command of an AOR. CFC-A is in tactical command of Afghanistan.

I used to do this shit for a living (operational architecture).

4. I understand but we should
report all casualties, and by this logic we crossed the 3000 mark a while ago

I know troops who have served in Afghanistan and they feel even more abandoned by US than those serving in Iraq

6. 3768, if you add up the totals for both wars, and include the allies. n/t
The civilian casualties are uncountable, but nobody cares much about them anyway.

8. That's the GWOT logic
Global War On Terror, as if they're all part of the same thing. They are not, in my view. It makes sense to keep thew Iraqi casualties separate from the Afghan casualties as a matter of practical politics. The Iraqi invasion was utterly unnecessary and completely unrelated to the Afghanistan stuff.
