Bush supporters simply cannot admit they were wrong...
On the war, on the character of their president, on the inevitability of what's happening in Iraq. They cannot admit to themselves that our nation is in a very deep hole - not only in Iraq but also financially and economically. They cannot admit that they were lied to by this Administration. Worst of all, they cannot admit their role in the criminal act now in play. They are in deep denial.

2. I have friends like that and I try to remember that they do not have
the info that I get from DU; we need to do a better job of getting it out there. Even my progressive friends are shocked by some of the things that I tell them; they have no idea of the magnitude of the lies and destruction created by the usurper-in-chief.

10. Great idea !
If you support the troops, enlist so the troops can go home to see their families. We should start a national campaign and watch how many of these Bush supporters change their tune.

13. In their eyes, supporting the troops is just paying them lip service.
To actually put their money where their mouth is something for suckers, not for people as holy as them. :eyes: Yep. The 101st Armchair Brigade, true patriots, one and all. :puke:

4. The survey said that psychotic
people usually gravitate toward the republican party. Their actions and mental capability (lack thereof) only go to prove it.

5. A little good news for ya --

Got email from an ultra right friend yesterday, definitely sickened by the exitless war, even compared it to Viet Nam! I'll be watching the next polls closely.

7. They're not merely "supporters", they are "believers"
And these believers have a nearly unshakable faith in Bush. I swear that many of them probably have shrines to him in their homes.

What's particularly ironic is that these people shudder at the deification of Kim Jong-il, but don't see that their genuflection toward Bush is part and parcel of the same sort of misguided worship.

16. Bingo!
The whole thing i like a bad high school sports movie. Everyone chanting "We're number one" even though their team is losing and supporting the team is seen as a virtue.

Which I guess it is in the case of a team, but not so much when it's a disastrous administration.

17. Speaking of shrines
Wasn't there a cardboard cutout of the chimp in the Jesus camp videos that all the kids were praying to?

12. I once watched a friend, who never got sea sick, puke over the starboard rail.
He wouldn't admit to being sick even with puke running out the corner of his mouth.

11. I don't understand this kind of stubbornness
at all. It's a little like the classic story of the guy that refuses to ask directions even though he's hopelessly lost. His dignity and manhood will somehow be diminished if it ever be known that he doesn't know everything.

If he's willing to be a stubborn asshole about something as trivial as directions, imagine his resistance to admitting he's, for 6 years, been defending and supporting a criminal president who has ruined the reputation and character of the country, depleted the treasury, and is the sole cause of the maiming and deaths of hundreds of thousands.

It's just like bush himself. He's willing to continue the death and destruction rather than admit he's wrong. He will sacrifice lives to preserve his Pride.

Pride is one of the "seven deadly sins" and I was taught it was the root of all evil. I believe it truly is, and this is what we're dealing with here with these people. Pride.

15. Good read.
I agree with the writer that it will take at least a couple generations to restore our image in the world. We have become the Ugly American, and few around the world have doubts about that anymore.

18. Brownshirt mentality.
The propaganda supports their world view and leaves them blameless. It is all somebody else's fault.
