1. It gives federal workers another day off
I wasn't sure whether this included postal workers, but now I know. Thanks for the information-otherwise I would have wasted a trip to the post office to buy stamps.

4. Crap.
I need to put things in the mail, and am expecting mail. I've come to hate weekends and holidays because my suppliers don't ship the stuff I order on those days, and UPS doesn't deliver. I don't really begrudge them their days off, but it's annoying to have another wasted day thrown in.

Seems to me a UPS-like company could make a killing if it offered delivery service on all days, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

5. Because a raised red flag on the mail box always caused an erection for Ford?
Sometimes his genitals would go postal.

6. National day of mourning for POTUS
There is typically a national day of mourning for a POTUS funeral.
Federal offices are closed.

7. When I stopped by the post office the other day
there was a sign on the door saying it would be closed Jan. 2 because of a "National Day of Mourning" in Ford's honor. Since the 31st was a Sunday and the 1st already a national holiday, I think it's a bit much to close the postal system down for yet another day. My parents will be anxiously waiting for their Social Security checks, as will millions of other seniors. Delaying mail is not, in my mind, a way to honor anybody.

11. And then when they finally do deliver the mail, it will take all day
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 05:48 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
because of the two-day backlog. As a self-employed person, I'm waiting for checks from clients, too, but they probably won't come till 5:00 PM.

I really can't recall a time when we had two no-mail weekdays in a row. In fact, I don't recall mail delivery being suspended for St. Ronnie Reagan's funeral, either.

12. Just imagine how many credit-card payments will become late tomorrow
Because they don't have grace periods anymore. Watch the companies jack up everyone's rates to 30% or higher because they didn't have their Jan. 2 payment in "on time." After all, it's not the companies' fault the mail didn't get delivered!

No, I'm not joking here.

"The postal workers got an extra day, so I deserve 200 extra days. My job is HARDER."
