Any ideas on what the WH sought to gain by saying * slept thru the execution?
Considering the fact that everything with Rove&Co is micromanaged and staged for greatest political value and impact, what advantage could they have seen in claiming that The Idiot was asleep at 9PM after the event(s) had been building so drastically all afternoon?

I have been wondering about this ever since it was announced.

2. Same thing Pilate got when he washed his hands
Two milennia of blaming a whole people for the execution HE ordered.

11. That's it!
I just knew it had to be an appeal to the Base and an extension of his messianic craziness, but I had forgotten about ol' Pilate (it has been at least 40 years since I thought about that execution).

3. It's all part of the "Iraqis killed Saddam, not me" ruse...
And they had to fine tune it to: "but the pResident was fully informed before he went to bed."

4. Cause it's a lot better than saying that
Bush jerked off quite furiously while watching the hanging. That might turn off some of the base.

Damn, it will take a lot of wine to erase that image from my feeble mind.

5. Maybe a sop for the religious too
The meme being perpetrated may be that Bush was so convinced of the justice of the thing that he could sleep soundly.

I choose to believe Bush just passed out early.

6. Lame attempt to make him look like Ronnie
"Ronald Reagan, who famously slept during Cabinet meetings, also snoozed through two overseas military encounters. In 1981, his counselor Edwin Meese called a 3 a.m. staff meeting after learning that U.S. fighter jets had shot down a pair of Libyan planes earlier that night. They decided against calling Reagan in his Los Angeles hotel room."

7. that he has no regrets/can sleep at night, etc...
That the execution was in whole an action by a FREE AND INDEPENDENT IRAQ!!! and that the US had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the trial and the timing of the execution. ie. Bush: "Why should I stay up for news of Saddam's death? That's an internal Iraqi matter."

Or something like that.

delayed for another two weeks(gee whiz what'll he crow about at the SOTU) and were VERY concerned about the proper documentation being attended to prior to the hanging.

16. i thought he's always asleep at 9 pm
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 09:51 PM by pitohui
he's made similar announcements in the past, such as after 911, that he is asleep by 9 or 9:30, i have always presumed the drink played a role, since it causes so many people to not sleep well and wake early and then pretty much fade early in the evening

no idea what they expect to gain from pointing out that once again bushco is sleeping while important world events take place

to me it's just further proof of his addiction but presumably this is not the message they intend to send

i think they are trying to pretend he sleeps well be it 911 or saddam's hanging but i don't thinking falling asleep before 9 is evidence that a person sleeps well unless they're, like, say 80, i would think it's evidence they run out of steam early because they DON'T sleep well -- and the people announcing his early sleep time are just idiots or think we are idiots

17. Pickles thought it might be "unseemly" to reveal
the details of the impending event had given Bush* the erections of all erections, and after spending all afternoon "relieving" his pent up excitement and celebrating over a fifth or two of Jack Daniels, he'd slumped over in his "easy" (big) boy recliner hours before the big event.

Being a "southern lady" of propriety, Pickles provided this alternate explanation for media and staff. :eyes: (her chief of staff will surely spill the beans to the Inquirer or Globe in the coming weeks)

... when she was on Death Row in Texas, etc. ad nauseum.

Maybe this time Oedipus Georgie put in a mocking phone call to dear old Dad.
