Would there be Repubs and Dems alike on our TVs for over a week straight telling us what a great guy he was?

What do you think?

I can just imagine hearing Tweety recalling his manly manliness right now. And telling us how misunderstood he was.

1. Yes, and there would be people here at DU...
who would call for him to be respected and revered for the sake of his family.

17. As someone who felt
that much of the dumping on Ford was completely over the top in the last week, I can state categorically that I would have no such feelings about bushco. Some of us can discern the difference between Ford and bushco, between criticism and absurd claims that Ford, for example, was a thug.

he just surrounded himself with them.

There's a difference between Ford and the BFEE though. Bush is much more deserving of being bashed to hell and back.

28. not respected or revered, but his death& body treated with respect for his family.
Respect him? No f*ing way. Treat the ceremony with respect for his family? Yes.

While I partied and celebrated also.

31. How do you party and celebrate about someone's death...
while also treating the ceremony with respect? Just curious?

34. By seperating the Death from the Person.
I have partied at friends and families wakes and it is quite easy to do there, involves a mixture of feelings. Express feelings of sorrow, condolences, and telling happy stories about the person too (for my mother). Miss her and celebrate her death, her release from this world into the unknown.

For Mr.bush: Treat his Death outwardly respectfully and expressing condolences to those who like and/or will miss him while being happy inside he is dead. It is a set of mixed feelings, ambiguity perhaps? Trying to find the right words here. Treat the ceremony, the funeral, with respect. Then have a glass of wine and be glad he is no longer around to continue the bad things.

36. Well if it's a member of the Bush family we're talking about...
that would be really hard for me, because I can't think of one of them that I could have any sort of feeling of remorse, sympathy or respect for. I don't know that I would necessarily "celebrate" it, but I couldn't show respect, as none is deserved.

37. It is sort of a "sorry you are dead, haha" mixture that is hard to get right.
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 08:20 PM by uppityperson
Respect is for those attending or who actually have positive feelings towards and are sorrowing. Manners are what we fall back on to be able to get along without killing each other. Edited to add perhaps some of it is "wish you had had a better life".

3. We must NEVER speak ill of the dead.
It will take more time to lionize bush, maybe 10 or 20 years after his carcass rots.

38. I just choked...
from laughing! Telling the truth shouldn't be "speaking ill of the dead", but I think it'll take longer than 10 or 20 years to put that much perfume on the Bush**turd.

Well, I'm so totally lapsed as a Catholic I'm going straight to hell, regardless of my spelling.

Let's blame it on Sister Rita Claire, my 3rd and 4th grade Catholic school teacher.

24. That would be the biggest favor
he could possibly do for the GOP and his base. He'll be a huge millstone around their necks forever.

It wouldn't surprise me if he weren't constantly looking over his shoulder like the Roman emperors (and Saddam for that matter) - afraid of his own party.
