Senator Jeff Sessions (R) just doesn’t get it (Saving America, ST Jan 2). He’s laments the poor savings record for Americans and thinks “private accounts” for Social Security are the answer. The savings rate isn’t down because there aren’t enough tax incentives; it’s down because there isn’t enough money to buy food, shelter and clothing for much of America.

Here are a few facts for Sen. Sessions: one in five children in America goes to bed hungry, working class wages have declined for the last six years, a million people a year lose their health insurance, a million more Americans sink into poverty every year and the rate of home foreclosures has not been this high since the Great Depression.

With $190 Billion in tax cuts the top 5% already have private accounts. They’re called 401ks, Roth IRAs, tax deferred investments and CEO bonuses. The rest of us have too much month left over at the end of the money.

2. I love it! The GOP knuckleheads think a tax cut is the answer

when the poor already have a low FIT rate (but high rates for state sales taxes, property taxes, etc). A tax cut will only make it worse for the working poor.
