5. Dang! I just missed it.
It couldn't have been any worse than the organ "music" as they took the casket from the National Cathedral.

9. He (or she) was playing "Amazing Grace" and was all over the place...
Missed notes, wrong notes, no consistent tempo. If the Daily Show plays any clip from the funeral, they have to play this one!:spray:

11. In for a dime, in for a dollar
Someone didn't tune his Bagpipes before he started to play. Those pipers need to travel down the road a couple of miles and conform they are in pitch before jumping in. Same thing happened to by poor nephew who played at a wedding. I bet dimes to donuts, the piper knew he screwed up the moment he started to play.

17. Very likely
The great bagpipes is a difficult instrument to tune: Only one of those pipes (the one in the player's hands) actually carries the melody; the others provide the "drone." If the drone pipes are out of tune with one another, especially if by just a little bit... the sound a still-living cat makes when you swing it around by its tail compares favorably. And once you start playing, it is too late to stop and make adjustments.

24. There was a bagpiper
who started showing up in Key West down at Mallory Square for the sunset celebrations. I think there were a number of people who had fantasies about drowning the guy.

12. Yes, but the bagpipe player had a lot of courtesy, and the version of Amazing Grace
helped the nation heal.

Wow, conservative revisionism works on anything!

14. Exit organ playing at Cathedral was out of a horror movie.
Bagpikes playing entering Gerald Ford Museum was the worst ever. I can only hope the piper was just a beginner and needs more practice.

19. My favorite bagpipe joke
Man walks into a session with an octopus and declares that his critter can play any instrument in the room and $50 backs up his outrageous claim.
So the fiddler hands over the fiddle, the octopus picks it up and plays beautifully, $50 to the octopus. Same for the drums, the guitar and banjo....

Then the piper declares he is sure to meet the bet and come out on top. So he hands over his pipes and the octopus turns them first one way then the other, and not a sound comes out of it. The owner looks little nervous and asks the octopus whats wrong.

"Play it? I'm still trying to get her out of these pajamas!!!!!!!!!"

21. According to Alfred Hitchcock:
"I understand the inventor of the bagpipes was inspired when he saw a man carrying an indignant, asthmatic pig under his arm. Unfortunately, the man-made object never equaled the purity of sound achieved by the pig."

:D

The pipes are one of my favorite instruments, but I do love that joke.

34. There ought to be a law against playing "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.
I mean, who in the hell first thought of that? And now, almost every funeral of a firefighter, soldier, police officer, or almost anyone gone too soon includes that particularly inapt pairing of instrument and melody.

For God's sake, play "Amazing Grace" on the guitar or with a string quartet, and "Scotland the Brave" on the pipes. Sheesh.
