How are we expected to trust anything ?
I lost trust when Kennedy was murdered .

There was so much suspician and evidence that was ignored and yet since that time we have allowed more and more lies to spill out to block out all common sense and curiousity .

One lie and coincindence after another and now in 2007 we still deal with this horror and find ourselves in a surreal world .

I can't believe that there are not many politicians many do trust who know nothing about the truth involved in many of these massive lies . I often wonder and more so today after what Bush senior said at Fords service today . I wonder how Ted Kennedy can stand this , he has to know what happened by now not that he can let us know .

So , no , I don't trust the politics we have got by a long shot .

Many may not want to hear this or agree but I doubt even the dems we have now after our fine midterm election can be trusted in any sort of full faith effort .

It just kills me how people are now picking their 2008 president team and how so many have such faith that the dem majority will make so grand newfound difference .

I wish I knew , I am a democrat and voted each election for many many years . I wish I know why people have so much faith in our government now .

2. I confess I don't even have much faith in many Democrats
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 05:41 PM by Warpy
I started to lose it during Carter's four years and lost it completely during Clinton's first two, when he rammed NAFTA and GATT through and diddled around with a health care plan that left the biggest obstacle to patient care in place, FOR PROFIT insurance companies.

I've always known about Dixie Democrats and how screwed up their priorities are, I lived in the south long enough to know them well. I was just dismayed at how the conservative virus seems to have spread throughout the country.

I will support any prochoice Democrat over any Repug, period. I just don't trust most of them any farther than I can throw a grand piano by one leg.

4.  have experienced much of what you said Blues.
I am coming to the conclusion that we have been looking to and investing our time and money in an neglectful, non-responsive lover - Washington D.C.

It seems clear to me Washington is not even capable of showing interest towards the citizens of America. They are drawn away from us by the lobbyists and special intersts, and many of them go quite willingly. The people in Congress most often because of their own personal wealth and desire to become moreso, have no interest and/or loyalty towards empowering the citizens with the necessities that we all must have in order to survive and even thrive. They have proven it over and over again, through the passage of such toxic legislation it should leave all of us with absolutely no doubt in our minds.

Now is the time to say move on from a 'relationship' that is not serving Americans at large.

As citizens, our part is we have also become addicted to convenience and have become conditioned to be nonactive when it comes to politics. So we get what out of our communities what we put into them.

I believe we need to start from square one. Our power is right at our finger tips, if we would only realize its value.

Get to know your neighbors, and/or at least the ones you like and are receptive.

Find out what you have in common and work from there.

Create gatherings and /or dinners - they don't have to do anything with politics, its really more about building relationships.

In truth, relationships take time.

There is no short cut on them, and there is no time like the present to start investing in our relationships with others, because that is the greatest power anyone can have.

Those are some New Years thoughts and suggestions.

6.  True enough
One thing that really bothers me about this new dem 100 hours is that nothing is said about our own gulf coast , our own people . Also they talk about raising the min wage as part of their 100 hours . What the hell good is a few dollar boost over two years , this amounts to nothing with the raise of the cost of living . Now if it was $15 right now then yeah that's realistic .

This just shows me just how out of touch with the reality of the americans that suffer they are . I doubt one of them has ever suffered anything like this so they don't represent all the people , just the people who show up on the charts .

Forty odd years of lies let go , by these freaks and if just one had the balls to speak out we would be well past a great country now .

5. The distrust you have is the result of a carefully crafted & cultivated media campaign by the GOP.
"Everyone knows" that all politicians are crooked. Why is that? Because the corporate media wants you to know every personal shortcomings of every politician in excruciating, nauseating detail - in the hopes that more and more people turn against them and thus be turned off from the political process.

And the GOP likes that just fine.

9.  Not really
I am going by my lifetime of watching history unfold . All the campaign promisses that never came to be , all the murders of the great people of my time and all the fake wars used to build up and hold onto corporate interests and a huge military industrial complex all holding hands all the way to the bank .

No , I don't listen to the mass media out pour of lies and propaganda . I watch the house and senate live and in action taped or rerun for the years it has been on and listen the the campaign issues and speeches .

So far all I have seen is alot of talk and little change or even action unless it comes to a war or the support of one .

10. true. relatively few LEFT/LIBERAL politicans are
in it for the perks, whereas ALL rightwing pols are pols in order to feather their nests....logic says this, not any dragged up opinion. The 'people' are an idea, a concept in terms of politics, so any pol that mainly concerns him/hersself with a minority, invariably wealthy/powerful, and hopes to exploit the 'great unwashed's' disorganization, its conflicting elements and its apathy etc in order to succeed servicing mr pig ie the upper class twit minority...a left/liberal politician otoh must deal with all the conflicting attitudes, racial, tribal and class that exist even among working people (white collar workers notoriously vote similarly to their bosses -even if the office worker earns alot less then say a skilled plumber or mechanic, they still identify with mr pig)...and at the end, the left lib politian gets a pension, if lucky; that's the only payoff (and it's this that routinely causes left liberal leaders to sell out the cause, take bribes or become corrupt-which are sop for rightwing pols!)
being a good politician, and quietly advancing the interest of 'the people' must be an almost impossible job. bill clinton was remarkable in this respect-strangely, no one has ever accused clinton of being corrupt (whitewater was a well funded political terror operation re 'arkansaw project')despite the ratwing loathing for him

8. trust in politicians?
there will always be a few, but we have now been through two generations of americans who have been trained not to think and to accept. I find it amazing that true "humans" like Kucinich are still able to find a place in politics.

Things will eventually change, and we have to hope those changes are for the better. They have to be. It can't get much worse (politically speaking)!

13.  Even in ones personal life
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 07:12 PM by blues90
Lets say with ones spouse , it takes years to know them and even then you don't know everything and people do change so this adds into the mix .

To trust anyone you don't know and by only their writings and speeches is impossible .

I know it's not possible to know these people , everything is based on trust and performance . These days it's about not getting caught .

A politicians life is so far removed from that of the common american citizen that there is a void that needs to be filled and expressed by the common citizen .

Some have gone out on the road to see how people live in the real world , most don't . Still one has to live it to understand it .

11. There's only a few politicians you could honestly trust
Kucinich is one guy. Conyers could be said to be another. You have to research the politicians. With respect to political parties, the Dems appear closer to workers than Repubs ever will be, but Dems shouldn't be given unequivocal trust either.

12. I trust all my reps
Granted there's only three of them, but I really have faith in Leahy, Sanders and our new Rep Peter Welch, who's teriffic. I feel so lucky to live in Vermont. (not just because of the healthy political scene, of course)

14. Yeah, you guys have a good one in the form of Sanders.
But that may be the fact that I'm biased towards reformist socialists.
