NBC News just reported that bush is preparing to surge 20,000 more troops into Iraq. Here he goes! Trying to cover this bungled mess he has gotten us into!

What will the Democratic Congress do?

2. I agree with others. The word is escalate
Surge sounds semi-meaningless, as I bet was the idea.

7. I have felt for the past 2 wks that all this talk about a 'surge' in
troops was just silly because, after all, *cos. hands will be tied by the dems.

The repugs are still trying to appear to be in control, as if they set the agenda.

Thank God they don't after tomorrow!

12. Well, considering that about 85% of the senate is effectively opposed...
...I suspect they've got all the political cover they need to stop this.

16. I think the point is they haven't been sent yet.
Thus, funds could be cut BEFORE the troops are surged.

They do have all those carriers over there, tho...

25. That's exactly right. The troops haven't been sent yet. If they don't have the $$$
to send them, they don't go.

15. right

The money for Iraq is expended for "the Global War on Terror" or "operation and maintenance, Army" or "emergency funding". Congress will not be able to simply cut off funding for a surge of troops in Iraq.

18. Yup... that's the scenario....
They're saying the Dems will cut off funding for the war "just as we were getting the upper hand in Iraq... just like we were winning in Vietnam when the Dems pulled funding. Dems are traitors!"

And the dumb-assed media and the dumb-ass populace will nod their collective heads and bleat Yes.

33. Precisely what the Quintessential Fortunate Son said on his first TOUR of Vietnam
<snip>

His visit has prompted comparisons between the failed U.S. military adventure here and the war in Iraq. Asked whether any lessons from Vietnam apply to the war in Iraq, Bush said: "One lesson is, is that we tend to want there to be instant success in the world, and the task in Iraq is going to take a while."

"It's just going to take a long period of time for the ideology that is hopeful, and that is an ideology of freedom, to overcome an ideology of hate," Bush said. "We'll succeed unless we quit," he added.

31. Plan, plan? They haven't needed a plan so far
Things work out so well when bushco ignores those dumb Generals and their plans, oh, and those people that tried to send a message to the govt. with their vote that we need to leave Iraq - (Sarcasm of course)

What would happen if the heads of the military refused to send troops, like, hey, they are too sick to go! Just kidding of course but the thought is exciting.
