Do not miss this ! PBS - Scary Music, Dark, Scary Portrayal of Cheney

If you missed PBS Frontline's expose last night on the lead up to the Iraq invasion it is a must see.

If anyone has any shred of doubt left that Cheney isn't running the show - it will be gone after seeing this show. Tidbit on 9-11 I never knew - Cheney ordered two planes shot down - and, he actually thought that they were. He thought Flight 93 was down because he ordered it down.

1. that was a great documentary, we are dealing with two
very dangerous people have you read the Buzzflash article regarding the interview with Dr. Justin Frank about Bush. We are dealing with some very sick sociopathic people.

3. Thanks ! Love these lines...
Because when Bush holds a PR press gathering, we don't need reporters, we need a room full of psychiatrists to analyze him.

We have a sociopath with has his hands on the steering wheel of America -- and that is a very dangerous thing indeed.

4. Interesting comments run in Woodward's article on Ford...
in the Washington Post this week. Comments by named and unnamed sources about Cheney basically all concurring that Dick Cheney is virtually unrecognizable from his days then. Brent Scowcroft was one that was named saying that Cheney is a very different person now, the implication being that the change was definitely not for the better.

I think there will be some bombshells in Woodward's book. Anybody know when it's coming out?

7. Didn't know he was writing a new book. Man, he must be a
zillionaire by now. Wish Bernstein would write a book instead...

10. Cheney (the authoritarian) "paid his dues" so he gets to be 'boss' now.
This is, imho, the most insightful way of regarding the authoritarian mindset. Authoritarians believe one 'earns' (to the degree there's anything 'earned') the entitlement to impose one's will on others by 'paying dues': following orders and complying. Cheney is the archetypal autocrat/authoritarian, imho. (Rumsfeld is almost identical.) They gravitated to hierarchical subcultures where the 'junior' people did the bidding of 'senior' people. Corporations, the military, politics, fraternities, and a host of other organizations are readily available for such pecking-order world views. The very phenomenon of 'hazing' in fraternities and military schools is based on the notion that you might get the 'privilege' to dish it out after you 'pay your dues' and take it. Thus, when Cheney (and Rumsfeld) were subordinates, they went along to get along and di the bidding of their bosses. When they become 'bosses' the game changed. It's their turn. Clearly, Junior Codpiece really never 'earned' his place - especially in the view of Cheney (and Rummy) ... so he's NOT the 'boss of him.'

18. John Dean lists Cheney as the quintessential GOPper without a conscience
and dismisses Cheney as a failure at everything he ever undertook in life, save for getting Halliburton all those defense contracts. Dean blames Cheney, in part, for Ford`s losing his own bid for the presidency.

19. Cheney has had long practice at manipulating others, including
... the people to whom he (titularly, at least) reported. He's the kind of sleaze-bag I've seen altogether too often: the "organization man" without conscience, manipulating for his own malicious purposes.

15. Are they trying to say
that he has changed so much so that they distance themselves from him.

He is the same damn evil and they know it!

People don't change that way ~~ that is highly unusual for no one to notice but they kept promoting him.

Maybe he is the Manchurian Candidate. :sarcasm:

5. I watched it. Although the 25%ers won't buy it.
An EXCELLENT documentary, voicing exactly what we all already know here.

6. Right. But I think for people who were kind of on the fence it should
have been enough to push them over. I think a vast number of people do not think that there was anything sinister or pre-planned about the war - they just think it was a worthy defense of our country that went bad. These are the people who must be convinced. The 25% will never, ever believe anything bad. My in-laws are in that group. I think that a lot of it has to do with being too proud or too stubborn to admit they were wrong about Asshat.

13. I saw the rerun on the local PBS @ 3a.m.
I hate it when I can't sleep and then watch something that pisses me off.

Should be required viewing for all Americans.

14. The two planes...
Norm Mineta testified that while he was waiting at NORAD, he heard a NORAD employee ask Cheney if the orders still stood. Cheney got really pissed and said something to the effect of: "Of course the orders still stand, I haven't said anything otherwise, have I?" I've always believed that the orders that Cheney gave were to stand down any military escort and not to have the planes shot down. I think that had either Bush or Cheney given the order to shoot down the plane, they would have been immediately. But that's not what they wanted, was it?

16. Please explain. You are saying you never thought Cheney ordered
the planes be shot down? This was a big deal on the diary of the day it happened. It was pretty much proven that Bush had nothing to do with the order but then lied about it and said he did - but the timing made it impossible for him to have done it. There was also that slip of the tongue by a Canadian military official - that they actually did shoot 93 down. Facinating. Maybe we will get a hearing on the whole thing.
