Fox News reporter says Bush admitted using cocaine, then retreats, citing, 'questions'
As political media buzzed about whether or not Senator Barack Obama's admission eleven years ago that he used cocaine as a teenager would hurt his political prospects, Fox News ran a segmenton "Obama's Cocaine Confession." Their conversation took an unusual turn, however, when Fox reporter Kirian Chetry said President Bush had also admitted to using cocaine.

"There's something to be said for diffusing any negative attacks that could come your way," said the Chetry said.

But she then turned to the question of whether Obama's admission was similar to allegations of President Bush's use of cocaine.

"He talks very candidly, as did our current president, who admitted to using cocaine....who was it who said they witnessed him using cocaine? It was somebody who wrote a book..."

As her colleagues tried to talk her down from the line of discussion, Chetry responded, "Okay, okay, okay, fine, but there were questions about the current president and whether he used cocaine or not as a young guy, but there's something about turning your life around...that people can accept."

1. I wonder if she's gotten her walking papers yet. It's not prudent to
mention certain things, ya know? God forbid the truth is discussed.

the press just refused to print it, because they have Repuke owners ...

edited to add:

Precedent - NY Times and the warrantless wiretapping story that they knew about well before the 2004 election ...

9. I'm sure they sincerly want to make sure that anyone in the news
industry that takes drugs, gets called out.

I wonder which one of them takes illicit drugs? :eyes:

10. anyone else catch
the one fellow saying that no other politician had admitted to using cocaine? That was out and out contradicting what the woman said. I noticed how the two men tried to tamp her down, and then right on with their talking points, implying that Obama was an addict ("he didn't say he did it only once"), then repeating the Clinton statement about not inhaling. They got right back on their little script, but unless you were totally brainwashed (which maybe Fox viewers are) you realized that their credibility was in tatters.

11. Geez, they try to make this such a big deal...
"He would be the first presidential candidate to admit to using cocaine..." blah, blah, blah. Said with that tone of gloom and doom. And the other guy asks, "Do we want a president who has used drugs" etc.

Gimme a break. SO WHAT!! He went through a rough time in high school, used stuff, overcame it and went on to have a brilliant life and career. Wow, that's really something to be ashamed of. How about the fact that his is HONEST and FORTHCOMING and not trying to HIDE anything. That says a lot more about his character than the fact that he used drugs YEARS ago.

And then trying to gloss over what the woman said about Bush. Phhffft. I'd say, not only are there questions about his drug and alcohol use years ago, but what about questions over if he's doing it NOW!!! That's a hell of a lot bigger deal, if you ask me.

Ugh. These people drive me nuts.

12. "He would be the first presidential candidate to admit to using cocaine..."
But not necessarily the first to actually USE cocaine.

Now if the public shows that it is sympathetic of a man who used cocaine in his youth and then overcame his obstacles to become a success, Bush will say, "Hey, I used cocaine too!"

13. Unless the person is absolutely an addict and in that case wouldn't
be running for President, this stuff is all BS.

16. she's gotta be history
For Faux News, this is the equivalent of Jimmy The Greek's unfortunate "during the slave period, the slave owner would breed his big black with his big woman so that he would have a big black kid—that's where it all started" quote in 1988 that got him fired from NFL Today.
