Mannequin fetish may lead to life in prison
http://www.suntimes.com/news/nation/194955,CST-NWS-manq03.article

<snip>Ronald A. Dotson, 39, of Detroit faces up to life in prison if convicted of a charge of attempted breaking and entering at a cleaning-supply company in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. snip

Dotson was arrested Oct. 9 after police say he smashed a window at a cleaning-supply company to get at a female mannequin dressed in a black and white French maid's uniform. He had been out of prison for less than a week.

Dotson was arrested in Ferndale in July 2000 and later convicted for breaking and entering at a women's clothing shop to get at a mannequin in a pink dress with bobbed hair.

Ferndale police also arrested Dotson in 1993 after finding him in an alley behind a woman's store with three lingerie-clad mannequins.

2. Jeez, someone give the guy a mannequin and a couple of wigs
and he'll probably be a model citizen. And he won't cost the taxpayers a single dime.

18. No shit, instead of trashing out of style mannequins, just
send some of them to the guy.

Smashing windows is what landed him in prison. Being weird may keep him there, poor sap.

3. Hmm, a better sentence might be psychiatric therapy.
But nah, life in prison instead for an apparently harmless psycho who breaks the law because of his obsessions. The resort to lengthy prison sentences for guys like this one is both inhumane and evidence of a severe lack of imagination on the part of the criminal justice system.

5. Life in prison?
I realize there was breaking and entering involved but he hurt no one. How many creeps do we have out there that actually harm people that walk the streets or get a few years. This guy needs help not prison.

Is it me, or is there something grossly wrong with the justice system in this country?

6. Too bad he didn't desert the NG, snort a lot of coke, get some DUI's
do some insider stock trading, steal public land for business partners, have a couple of elections fixed and kill a bunch of people in an illegal war - They'd call him President instead of 3 time loser.

than direct toward live people... That is a good thing right?

17. I got some mannequins in my basement .....
left over from a previous career of doing displays for department stores. Probably dressed a thousand of them.

Stopped being interesting after the first ten or so.

No matter how good they look, they FEEL cold and hard. Maybe that is symbolic? Also, highly breakable.

and Ferndale is one poor scary area of Detroit, too.

22. Ferndale is a liberal Mecca northwest of Detroit.
It's actually rather middle class ... and VERY liberal by Michigan standards. (I live about four miles away in Royal Oak.)

23. ooorrrr we could just buy this freak a harem of mannequins...
...and save ourselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in imprisonment costs.

Unless the act of breaking in and having his way with other people's mannequins is an indispensable part of his fetish, and legal mannequins just don't do it for him. In that case, setting him up with dollies of his own will not work.

Whatever. I'm actually sort of happy that this one focuses his weird desires on inanimate objects.

24. Might still be cheaper to rent a little storefront near where he lives...
...just to let him break into whenever "the need' arises than to keep him incarcerated for the rest of his life.

This urge of his is bound to wear off with time.
