Woman who lost son in Iraq plans veterans center

TRACY -- A Tracy woman plans to tap companies that have profited from a war which claimed her son to help fund her $25 million vision for a retreat center to soothe veteran soldier’s souls.

Nadia McCaffrey, son Sgt. Patrick McCaffrey was killed in Iraq in 2004, is finishing proposals to pitch to about 10 companies -- Halliburton, Bechtel, Dyncorp, among them -- that have made money through reconstruction and other contracts in Iraq.

McCaffrey said she hopes the companies will make donations to her goal of creating a retreat to help veterans settle back into their lives through counseling and health and wellness activities ranging from art to massage.

McCaffrey said 207 companies have made pledges to help fund the center, and she wants companies with Iraq contracts, some of which donate to veterans’ causes, to buy into her vision.

2. Good luck with that.....
...they profit from war, death and destruction....and that's all they care about. They don't wanna fund a memorial to remind them of the thousands of people who paid with their lives to improve the bottom lines.
