March 3, 2007 - President Bush issues executive order suspending Congress

Today, in an unprecedented and controversial move, President George W Bush issued an executive order suspending Congress. Citing the Democrats' inability to work with him on national security issues, Bush declared a national state of emergency, thereby giving himself almost total control of the US government. "I have tried everything in my power to work with this Congress, but their refusal to work with me on the war on terror gives me no choice," Bush announced. The suspension takes effect immediately, and is indefinite.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi could not be reached for comment.
