Ford Pardoning Nixon to heal the Country was a bunch of BS

In Bob Woodwards recent article in the Washington Post he describes a very close friendship between Ford and Nixon. Ford didn't think twice about pardoning Nixon. They were friends and colleagues.

But the tapes, documents and two lengthy recent interviews with Ford before his death this week, conducted for a future book and embargoed until after his death, show that the close political alliance between the two men seriously influenced Ford's eventual decision to pardon Nixon,

"I looked upon him as my personal friend. And I always treasured our relationship. And I had no hesitancy about granting the pardon, because I felt that we had this relationship and that I didn't want to see my real friend have the stigma," Ford said in the interview.

One thing this week has reminded me of, there is no chance this country will ever change. It lives in lies. It makes it a little easier because I can blame everyone, not just the Republicans or Democrats. Without the truth, without justice, without reform, all you have is the same criminals being recycled. That's all we have today. We haven't healed or moved on a bit. We are living a different version of 1974-but it's not a better country. We have Cheney, we have Baker, we have a war until five minutes ago-managed by Rumsfeld, and we have the son of the other Bush and we have WORSHIP of progaganda. We have another pointless war. We have another-worse-more secretive executive branch.

Not in the least. But lies are what make us safe in America. It's easier that way. Like believing that voting changes something.
